Marilyn Jane Krier

Marilyn Jane Krier, age 84, of Alta, Iowa died Sunday, November 26, 2023 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. Funeral Mass will take place Saturday, December 2, 2023 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday, December 1, 2023 from 4-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 pm all at Fratzke and Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Marilyn Jane Jorgenson was born May 7, 1939 to Gordon and Evelyn Jorgenson in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. She grew up attending school at Colton School, graduating in 1957. She went on to attend trade school in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, graduating with a Secretarial Degree. She also graduated in 1961 from the Stewart School of Hairstyling in Sioux Falls. Marilyn was baptized at the First Lutheran Church in Colton, South Dakota. Most recently, she was a member of the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa where she served on the Guild, taught religious education, and was a member of the CCD board. She was involved in the Special Olympics of South Dakota and Iowa. On December 7, 1957, Marilyn was united in marriage to Andrew L. Krier at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Dell Rapids, South Dakota. They were blessed with six children: Steven, Michael, Paul, Lisa, Kathleen, and Scott. Marilyn was a loving, caring, giving and supportive mother who was very protective of her family. She was strong willed and not shy about sharing her feelings and a story or two, even with strangers, which was always from the heart and with the best of intentions – and often resulting in a smile or chuckle to be shared. She had a big heart for anyone in need and would do what she could to ensure happiness. As a wife of 65 years, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, she cherished her family and was always there to support them and their families. Marilyn was one of the most genuine people, and a true friend. Marilyn was a hairstylist for 55 years, including working in other salons as well as having a salon in several of her homes which allowed her to care for her daughter, Kathy. She truly believed that God had given her a gift in her daughter, Kathy, and cared for her with selfless dedication and love. She loved attending many of her family’s events, including sporting, dance, music, theatre and other activities. She had many fun outings attending auctions, and held a reserved number, No. 107. She had a true appreciation for food, and a had a sweet tooth for desserts. She enjoyed having people around her table, and thoroughly enjoyed taking her family out to eat and for entertainment. She loved being able to go out and see the sights and enjoyed those times she was able to get out of the house and visit with others. The 4th of July was her favorite holiday because it was warm and she knew she would be enjoying the many different foods and music, and being with family for the celebration. She will be truly missed by family, friends and the many people she touched during her life’s journey. May she now rest in peace. To the souls in heaven - Marilyn has a lot to share. Left to cherish Marilyn’s memory include her spouse: Andrew Krier; children: Steven (Ann) Krier of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Michael (Shane Bailey) Krier of Minnetonka, Minnesota; Paul (Richard Silvey) Krier of Palm Springs, California; Lisa Fitzgerald of Aurelia, Iowa; Kathleen Krier of Alta, Iowa; Scott (Rachel) Krier of Aurelia, Iowa; sisters: Beverly Jacobs; Vicki (Brenda Engen) Jorgenson; grandchildren: Ryan Fitzgerald; Ross (Jasmine) Fitzgerald; Trey (Jenny) Krier; Aaron (Amanda) Krier; Alicia (fiancé, Austin Newmann) Krier; Anthony Krier; great-grandchildren: Braxton McAlphine; Gaven Fitzgerald; Colt Fitzgerald; Payton Fitzgerald; Scarlett Fitzgerald; Wyatt Fitzgerald; Coyer Krier; Keaton Krier; Callen Krier; Eloise Krier; Aaron Krier; extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Evelyn Jorgenson; sisters: Phyllis Mader; Betty Overvaag; Julie Rush; parents-in-law: Leavern and Irene Krier; brothers-in-law: Joseph Krier; Arthur Krier; Jerome Krier; and Donald Overvaag.
