Lorna Burnside

Lorna Mae Caroline (Hoberman) Burnside, age 82, of Storm Lake, Iowa passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2016 from Alzheimer’s with her husband and children at her side. Funeral services will be held Saturday, February 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will take place Friday, February 19, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established in her name. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Lorna was born on the family farm north of Newell, IA on September 19, 1933 to Louis and Minnie (Lussman) Hoberman. She was a graduate of Newell High School. She was a life-long member of Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where she was a High School Bible Class teacher and active in Ladies Aid for many years. On January 30, 1953 she was united in marriage to Robert Burnside, and to this union two children were born. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, farmer, and politician. She was a very skilled negotiator and truly enjoyed helping people. She served on many committees and worked many years as a Buena Vista county supervisor. She knew no strangers and loved to visit. Traveling and supporting her family in their pursuits were very important to her. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her husband, Robert Burnside of Storm Lake; two children, Susan Burnside of Lakeside and Greg (Rhonda) Burnside of Storm Lake; one brother, Arlo Hoberman of Storm Lake; several grandchildren Nick Logan (Marnell Veracruz) of Florence, SC, Ian (Crystal) Logan of Bainville, MT, Cate Logan (Vicki-lynn Anderson) of Des Moines, IA, Raquel (Grant) Ita of Waterloo, IA, and Lisa Burnside of Des Moines, IA. She also leaves behind her great grandchildren Taylor McCullough, Nadine Veracruz, Elise Logan, Trevor Goff, Cian Logan, and Owen Logan and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Lorna was preceded in death by her parents, and sister-in-law, Donna Hoberman.
