Lois Faye Moritz

Lois Moritz of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, March 18, 2012 at her home in Storm Lake. Lois Faye Sorenson was born October 27, 1928 in Storm Lake, Iowa the daughter of Ivan and Violet (Hatch) Sorenson. She was so tiny that she was brought home in a shoebox at a little over two pounds. She was raised by her Grandma and Grandpa Hatch on a farm near Nemaha, Iowa. Lois attended school and graduated from Nemaha High School in 1947. While roller-skating, she met the love of her life, Curtis Moritz and on September 18, 1950 they were united in marriage at St. Maryâ€™s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with four children: Timothy, Steve, Lori, and Scott. Lois was a member of the St. Maryâ€™s Catholic Church in Storm Lake where she was a member of Catholic Daughters. She was a prayer line volunteer and also a member of Sparklers, wives of Storm Lake Fireman. Lois also enjoyed being a member of the womenâ€™s bowling league. Lois worked as a telephone operator from 1950-1954. After her children were grown, she worked at Siefer Consultants, Storm Lake Pilot Tribune and the Storm Lake Times. In her spare time, she loved to sew, knit, crochet and quilt. Lois enjoyed reading, playing cards and putting together puzzles. She loved watching her children and grandchildren participate in sports, dance, and extracurricular activities. Lois was an avid sports fan, especially basketball and enjoyed playing basketball in high school where she and her team went to the state tournament her senior year. Lois loved traveling and traveled to Nevada several times to visit her sister and to Chicago to see her daughter and family many times over the years. She treasured her family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Curtis Moritz of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Tim (Cindy) Moritz of Storm Lake, Iowa; Steve (Tami) Moritz of Storm Lake, Iowa; Lori (Mike) Sippel of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; Scott Moritz of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Erica (Eric) Loerts of Fort Dodge, Iowa; Sarah (Mark) Schau of Pacific Junction, Iowa; Christa Moritz of West Des Moines, Iowa; Cassie Moritz of Storm Lake, Iowa; Alison Sippel, Julia Sippel; Mary Kate Sippel, and Rebecca Sippel all of Glen Ellyn, Illinois; step grandchild, Keri Kjartanson of Rogers, Arkansas; great grandchildren: Alex, Sam, and Zach Loerts; Gavin and Maya Schau; step great grandchildren: Donnie and Nick Kjartanson; sister: Alice (Ernie) Relford of Fallon, Nevada; sisters-in-law, Nancy (Fred Hall) Peters of Storm Lake, Iowa; Darlene (Ray) Snyder of Storm Lake, Iowa; brother-in-law, Robert Moritz of Boone, Iowa; extended family and many friends. Lois was preceded in death by her parents, Ivan and Violet Sorenson; and brother, Dick Sorenson.
