Linda Sue Essing of West Bend, Iowa, and formerly of Pomeroy, Iowa, entered into the arms of the Lord she loved on January 13, 2021. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, March 28, 2021 at 1:00 p.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Carroll. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Linda Sue Essing ~ a devout Christian who loved music and laughter. Linda Sue Essing of West Bend, Iowa, and formerly of Pomeroy, Iowa, entered into the arms of the Lord she loved on January 13, 2021. Linda, 75, was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, to Adeline (Gutz) and John “Red” Essing, and grew up on the family farm. She attended Pomeroy schools, graduating as salutatorian of the Class of 1963. She was a cheerleader, homecoming queen, active in vocal and instrumental music, and held leadership roles in various clubs. She also was an active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church as choir member, organist, and Walther League member. Linda lived with her mother until Adeline passed. They looked out for one another and were inseparable. Living a block from the school, they often hosted nieces for lunch and after school. The girls arrived to always find a special treat of five Oreos on a plate. They spent afternoons playing hide and seek and listening to Linda play piano. Linda would always lend a helping hand with big family holiday meals, cooking and cleaning up. She was an animal lover and enjoyed playing cards and other games. Linda and Adeline hosted nephews and nieces for summertime visits that included swimming at Twin Lakes State Park, movies and other fun. With help from relatives, Linda and Adeline traveled to visit family in Arizona and Florida. Linda later traveled to family reunions in New York and Oregon. She enjoyed attending Bible Camp at Lake Okoboji. Linn, as she liked to be called in her later years, was active in the local churches and liked to volunteer. She spent her last years at West Bend Health & Rehab Center, where the caring staff eased her passage to heaven. The family expresses deep gratitude to the many caregivers, pastors, and fellow congregants in the communities Linn called home. Thank you for the friendship, spiritual support, and kindnesses that made her feel welcome and loved. Linn was preceded in death by her parents and brother Merle Essing; nephew Todd Essing; brother-in-law Don Stiles and sister-in-law Sandy Essing. She is survived by sister Lorna Stiles of Exira, Iowa; brother Dennis Essing of Kissimmee, Florida and sister-in-law Mary Essing of Ankeny, Iowa; nine nephews and nieces and their children and grandchildren; and cousins. People can spread the spirit of Linda Sue Essing by leading Christ-like lives full of love and kindness.
