Lester Anderson

Lester Anderson, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Marathon, Iowa died July 11, 2017 at the Pleasant View Home in Albert City, Iowa. Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Poland Township Cemetery in Marathon. Visitation will take place Friday, July 14, 2017 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Memorials may be made in Lester's name to Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon or St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Lester Anderson was born January 19, 1923 on the family farm near Marathon, Iowa the son of Albert and Tekla (Nelson) Anderson. Lester was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon. Growing up, he attended school in Marathon where he graduated from Marathon High School in 1940. On October 17, 1943 Lester was united in marriage to Marvel Herrig at the Little Sioux Valley Lutheran Church west of Rembrandt, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with five children: Robert, Steven, David, Sandra, and Gregory. Lester was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Marathon where he served Grace in many ways. He later transferred his membership to St. Mark Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Lester was a member of the Marathon Co-op Board and he was recognized as Buena Vista County Farmer of the Year. In his spare time, Lester enjoyed wood carving. He loved playing cards, especially Bridge with different card clubs. Lester and Marvel enjoyed traveling together, especially wintering in Arizona for 24 years and Texas for 2 years with their many friends. Family was very important to Lester. He thoroughly treasured the time he was able to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be deeply missed by all who loved and cared for him. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Robert (Joan) Anderson of Marathon, Iowa; Steven (Joellen) Anderson of Elkhart, Indiana; David (Carla) Anderson of Marathon, Iowa; Gregory Anderson of Flower Mound, Texas; grandchildren: Chad (Kim) Anderson, Bobbi Epperson, Lacey (TJ) Schmidt, Andrea (Keith) Bonanno, Derick Anderson, Zach Anderson, Lance (Christine) Anderson, Julie (Jamie) Riesselman, Carl (Krissy) Anderson, Nick Kliegl, Jordan Anderson, Shelby Anderson; great grandchildren: Alex, Amanda, Morgan, Rylie, Ryan, Anderson, Megan, Katelyn, Hayden, Peyton, Matthew, Lucas, Logan; extended family and friends. Lester was preceded in death by his wife, Marvel; daughter, Sandra Anderson; granddaughter, Marvel Anderson; brothers and sisters: Vernal Anderson, Mabel Carlson, Ruth Burns, Donald Anderson, Delbert Anderson, Evelyn Anderson, and Dale Anderson.
