Leota LaFern Ploeger

Leota LaFern Ploeger, age 101, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Schaller, Iowa died September 22, 2013 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Leota LaFern King was born July 24, 1912 in rural Nemaha, Iowa the daughter of Oscar Jackson and Leora S. (Biggins) King. She was baptized and confirmed at the Methodist Church. Growing up, Leota attended public schools in Alta and Storm Lake graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1930. On February 19, 1931, Leota was united in marriage to Herman Ploeger at the Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ parsonage in rural Schaller by Reverend Otto Engelman. Together, they were blessed with four children: Marvin, Phyllis, Norma, and Dennis. Leota and Herman farmed in the Storm Lake, Early, and Schaller areas for many years and retired to their home in Schaller in 1971. In 2007, she moved to Lake Pointe Villa in Storm Lake. Leota was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Schaller. She enjoyed gardening and reading. In her spare time, she loved sewing, especially the many quilts she made for her children and grandchildren. Leota treasured spending time with her family and had several fond memories of the trips they took together. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Phyllis (Edward) Lenz of Early, Iowa; Norma (Wallace) Boysen of Omaha, Nebraska; Dennis (Diane) Ploeger of Glidden, Iowa; grandchildren: Wanda (Jack) Konz of Johnston, Iowa; Cheryl (Steve) Olmstead of Queen Creek, Arizona; David (Judy) Ploeger of Storm Lake, Iowa; Vicki (Joe) Kingkade of Omaha, Nebraska; Sue (Ron) Loggins of Early, Iowa; Mary Brau of Carroll, Iowa; Linda (Doug) Mandernach of Adel, Iowa; Christie (Richard) Sharpe of Scottsdale, Arizona; Douglas (Diane) Boysen of Omaha, Nebraska; Carrie (Kevin) Quinn of West Chicago, Illinois; Kimberly (Clark) Buelt of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 24 great grandchildren; 22 great great grandchildren; sister, Geneva Lames of Farmington, Arkansas; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Leota was preceded in death by her husband, Herman in 1993; son, Marvin and daughter-in-law, Betty Ploeger; daughter-in-law, Karen Ploeger; parents, Oscar and Leora King; brother, Russell King; brother, Kenneth King and sister-in-law, Marion; sister, Florence Kendell; and brother-in-law, Robert Lames.
