Laura Witte

Laura Lee Witte, age 78, of Schaller, Iowa died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at the Loring Hospital in Sac City, Iowa. Laura Lee was born June 15, 1935 in Iowa City, Iowa. At the age of six months, Laura and her twin brother, Lloyd, were welcomed into the loving home of Carl and Serena (Rusch) Weiland through the gift of adoption. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church. Growing up, she attended grade school at Hanover Parochial through eighth grade and then went on to Alta High School for her freshman and sophomore years before attending Galva High School for her junior and senior year, where she graduated in 1953. While attending Galva High School she was a member of the state basketball team. On August 5, 1956, Laura was united in marriage to Emmett A. Witte at the St. John Lutheran Church in Galva. Together, they were blessed with two daughters, Karla Lee and Karen Ranee. Laura was a member of the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller where she was a voting member. She was also a member of the Cook Merry Gardeners and the Alta Country Club. Laura worked as a bookkeeper for many years before staying home and raising her daughters and helping with the farm operation. In her spare time, she enjoyed playing cards and dice games. A favorite past time of Lauraâ€™s was golfing with her husband, Emmett and friends. Laura enjoyed watching high school activities of her children and grandchildren. She was a dedicated and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, and friend. Family was very important to Laura and she treasured spending time with family and friends. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband of 57 years, Emmett Witte of Schaller, Iowa; daughters: Karla (Randy) Hustedt of Galva, Iowa; Karen (Rich) Malcom of Schaller, Iowa; grandchildren: Joel (Jordan) Hustedt; Marcus (Khara) Malcom; Chad (Jennifer) Hustedt; Jenna Malcom; Keith (Cori) Hustedt; Dana Hustedt; great granddaughters: Eve Hustedt; Paige Malcom; and Paisley Hustedt; twin brother, Lloyd (Myrna) Weiland of Johnston, Iowa; brothers-in-law: George (Jan) Witte of Schaller, Iowa; Don (Wilma) Witte of Bentonville, Arkansas; sisters-in-law: Esther Patterson of Britton, South Dakota; Joyce Witte of Sac City, Iowa; half brother, Doug (Nancy) Keifer of Cedar Falls, Iowa; half sisters: Judy (Duane) Judisch of Cedar Falls, Iowa; Sue (Wyatt) Reynolds of Norman, Oklahoma; extended family and many friends. Laura was preceded in death by her parents, Carl and Serena Weiland; birth mother, Velma Keifer; brothers-in-law: Clarence, Roy, Burdette, Robert, Edward, and Lee Witte; sisters-in-law: Hattie Teghtmeyer and Irene Carstensen.
