Kenneth Dale Grundmeier

Kenneth Dale Grundmeier, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa and formerly of Schaller, Iowa died December 9, 2012 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Kenneth Dale Grundmeier was born in Schaller, Iowa on April 7, 1924 the son of Herman and Clara (Bloyer) Grundmeier. He was baptized at the Immanuel Reformed Church in Schaller and later confirmed at the Schaller Presbyterian Church. Growing up, he attended grade school at Eden Township #3 Country School and graduated from Hayes Township in 1941. Following high school graduation, Kenny enlisted in the United States Army in April 1942, where he served his country in Europe during World War II until he was honorably discharged in April 1945. On August 4, 1946, Kenny was united in marriage to Jean Virginia Chindlund at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with four children: Denise, Cynthia, Roger and Dale. Kenny was a member of the Schaller Presbyterian Church where he served as elder and deacon and also taught Sunday school. Kenny was involved with the National Presbyterian Mariners. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Sioux City Consistory, Eastern Star, and a life member of the Schaller VFW. He was also a Farm Bureau Director and Co-op Board member. Kenny had worked at Thompson Hardware and Woodke Machine Shop. He started playing golf at 55 years old and loved playing it. In his spare time, he enjoyed reading, tinkering and creating objects. Kenny treasured his family and will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Jean Virginia Grundmeier of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Denise (Don) Reyerson of Dubuque, Iowa; Cynthia (Jim) Houser of Perry, Georgia; Roger (Ruth) Grundmeier of Dubuque, Iowa; Dale (Kathy) Grundmeier of New Sharon, Iowa; grandchildren: Jane (Bill) Ford; Ellen (Jason) Smith; Chad (Christa) Houser; Kurt (Allyson) Houser; Sarah (Curtis) Holub; Jacob (Shannon) Grundmeier; Caleb (Jennifer) Grundmeier; Seth (Chelsea) Grundmeier; 12 great grandchildren; brother, Richard (Marie) Grundmeier of Salt Lake City, Utah; sisters: Jean Snyder of Council Bluffs, Iowa; Jennette Martin of Bella Vista, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Bill (Betty) Chindlund of Storm Lake, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Jan (Roy) Vogel of Bella Vista, Arkansas; Norman Gibbons of California; extended family and friends. Kenny was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers-in-law, Bill Martin and James P. Snyder.
