Kathy A. Krogstad

Kathy A. Krogstad, age 64, of Newell, died November 28, 2013, at the Newell Good Samaritan Center in Newell. Kathy was born on December 30, 1948 in Storm Lake to Virgil and Bonnie (Corderman) Jensen. Kathy attended school in Newell, graduating in 1967. Kathy married Lynn on December 6, 1969 and lived in Storm Lake for the first 3 years of marriage. In 1972, Lynn and Kathy moved to the Krogstad farm near Varina where they welcomed son Ryan in 1974 and Chadwick in 1977. The family lived on the farm until 1994, when they moved into their current home in Newell. After graduating high school, Kathy attended Wayne State for one year before returning to Storm Lake to begin her bookkeeping career at Vilas and Company. Kathy also worked for First Federal Savings & Loan, Newell Providence School and spent the majority of her career working for the Newell Coop Elevator, while spending her spare time teaching piano lessons to young folks around the area, especially to her nieces. Lynn and Kathy retired in 2008, where they spent a lot of time seeing different parts of the country near and far, spending portions of time near their sons in Texas and Wisconsin. Lynn and Kathy enjoyed trips to the Black Hills, Branson, Mexico, Arizona and especially the trip to Alaska a couple of summers ago. Kathy was baptized and confirmed at Nain. She was an active member in the church playing the piano for church and Sunday school, teaching Sunday school, and serving on multiple committees. She also enjoyed serving as the treasurer for several years. Kathy enjoyed playing bridge, golfing with the girls, book keeping, reading, playing piano, gardening, and traveling. She also enjoyed serving as treasurer for the Newell Womenâ€™s Golf association for many years. Kathy especially liked being a mother and grandmother and enjoyed spending time with her kids and grandchildren as well as showing off pictures of the grandkids to her many friends. Kathy enjoyed buying clothes for the grandchildren, especially when they were on sale. In particular, Kathyâ€™s practical side felt you could never have enough pajamas which earned her the relished nickname â€œPajama Grandmaâ€. Kathy is survived by her husband of 44 years, Lynn of Newell; son, Ryan and daughter in-law Trisha, grandchildren Halle and Tyler of Austin, TX; son, Chadwick and daughter in-law Michelle, grandchildren Bennett and Harrison of Madison, Wisconsin; sister, Kolesa Kier and husband Steve of Newell; brother, Bob Jensen and Steph of Newell; sister in-law, Eldona Hornor and husband Duane of Newell; sister-like cousin, LeDonna Gommels and husband Jim of Iowa City; aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and numerous friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Bonnie Jensen; and in-laws, Ine & Myrtle Krogstad.
