Joanne C. Boger

Joanne C. Boger, age 87, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Monday, July 16, 2018 at her home in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held on Friday, July 20, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, July 19, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Joanne Boger, the daughter of John and Carolina (Kies) Gerdes, was born on March 11, 1931 in Storm Lake. Joanne attended grade school and high school in Lake View, Iowa where she graduated in 1948. On October 7, 1950, Joanne was united in marriage to William Boger in Champaign, Illinois. They were blessed with five children: Michael, Ronald, Joni, Thomas, and Patti. Joanne was a member of the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake and was very involved in the Circle Number 3. She also helped on special occasion committees, special missions, memorial committee, Reader’s Group, and was a communion steward. She was also a member of the American Legion Women’s Auxiliary. Joanne and Bill enjoyed a marriage that lasted 59 years. They spent numerous days traveling around the United States and were fortunate to travel to Europe, Canada, and Mexico as well. In later years, they divided their time between Storm Lake and the warm climate of south Texas where they relaxed and socialized with friends and family. In her free time, Joanne loved to socialize by having people over and going out for lunch and breakfast with her friends. Her hobbies included collecting nativity sets and anything with butterflies. When she wasn’t out with friends, she liked to shop, cook, bake, and read. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Ronald Boger of Boerne, Texas; Joni (Allan) Walquist of Storm Lake, Iowa; Thomas (Cynthia Grossman) Boger of San Antonio, Texas; grandchildren: Alysia Hess; Ryan (Roxanne) Boger; Brandon Boger; Gavin Boger; Tollie (Brandon) Turnquist; Carrie (Michael) Walsh; Katie (Andres) Amador; Aaron (Stacey) Boger; Tara (Adam) Walker; Brett (Candance) Kleespies; Whitney (Mark) Guvernator; Christopher (Adrianna) Grossman; great-grandchildren: Ethan & Maddie Boger; Justice, Declan, & Ayden Boger; Brock & Connor Turnquist; Ellie & Addie Walsh; Deshon Buchanan, Ben, Westley, & Zory Amador; Barrett, Easton, & Noah Boger; Elise & Lilianna Grossman; Jaxson & Paisley Kleespies; EJ (Rosalie) Guvernator; Ashley (Abe) Guvernator Cisneros; Chandler (Aspen) Guvernator; Kaylan Guvernator; great-great-grandchild, Rex Guvernator; brother, Kenneth Gerdes of Denver, Colorado; brother-in-law, James Boger of Denison, Iowa; sisters-in-law: Shirley McBride of Kenosha, Wisconsin; Lois Catero of Mesa, Arizona; Cheri Boger of Willard, Missouri; Marjorie (Luverne) Rydberg of Alta, Iowa; numerous nieces and nephews. Joanne was preceded in death by her husband, William Boger; son, Michael Boger; daughter, Patti Devine; parents, John and Carolina (Kies) Gerdes; sister, Alice Andrews; and brothers, Alvin and Arnold “Pete” Gerdes.
