Jean R. Loomis

Jean R. Loomis, age 92, of Des Moines, Iowa formerly of Storm Lake, Iowa died February 26, 2017 in Des Moines. Graveside services will be held April 22, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. A reception will be held at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Jean Reed was born on October 17, 1925 in Dekalb, Illinois. Her young life was spent in Sioux City, Iowa and Storm Lake, Iowa. She was working in a hamburger shop in Storm Lake when she met her future husband. On November 9, 1942 she was united in marriage to Vincent E. Loomis of Spencer, Iowa. They moved to Van Nuys, California to work in the Timm Aircraft factory building planes for the war. They returned to Iowa in February of 1944 to attend the funeral of Vince's only sibling, Leo. They made their home in Storm Lake for the next 49 years where they raised their two daughters, Vickie and Lynette. A few years after the death of her beloved husband, Jean moved to Arnolds Park, Iowa, where she lived for 14 years. Jean then moved to Phoenix, Arizona to enjoy the sun and warmth year round. She lived in Phoenix until May of 2016, when she moved to Des Moines, Iowa, to be closer to her family. Jean enjoyed sunbathing in her younger years, a cup of coffee, beer or glass of wine with the neighbors or her group of friends, traveling, playing quarter slot machines, cards, sewing, knitting, reading and anything red. Every summer she made potato salad for the B.V. County fair with her friend, Monica. She is survived by her daughters, Vickie (Richard) Meixner, Bloomington, MN; Lynette (Roger) Wheatley, Des Moines, IA. Three grandchildren, Julie (Scott) Nelson, Lakeville, MN; Chad (Cristen) Wheatley, Spirit Lake, IA; Jeffrey Meixner, Redondo Beach, CA; and 4 great granddaughters, Karlie Nelson, Ames, IA; Abbie Nelson, Lakeville, MN; Cameron and Casidy Sheda, Spirit Lake, IA; nieces & nephews, cousins and friends. Jean was preceded in death by her husband Vince, her parents, siblings, a nephew and a host of friends. She will be laid to rest next to her husband at Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery.
