Jane Ann Carlson

Jane Ann Carlson, age 83, of Alta, Iowa died December 8, 2020 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Private graveside services will take place Thursday, December 10, 2020 at the Scandinavian Cemetery in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements. Jane Ann McGarry was born May 1, 1937 in Emmetsburg, Iowa the daughter of Lawrence and Mildred (Edwards) McGarry. Growing up, Jane attended school in Truesdale, Iowa where she graduated in 1955 as the Valedictorian of her class. On August 19, 1956 Jane was united in marriage to Clifford “Arlen” Carlson in Storm Lake. Together, they were blessed with four children: Colleen, Daryl, Steven and David. Jane was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta where she taught Sunday School and Bible School and she was a member of church ladies. Jane was also a member of “Jolly Janes” neighborhood club. Jane enjoyed helping her husband, Arlen, on the farm for many years. She was a homemaker and treasured being able to care for her children. In her spare time, she enjoyed being outdoors, especially camping, bird watching, gardening, and working in her flower garden. A favorite pastime of Jane’s was quilting by herself and with Arlen. Together they have made many quilts. Jane loved baking and canvas painting. She treasured playing the piano and organ and played the accordion in her youth. Family was particularly important to Jane and she loved spending time with her grandkids. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Arlen Carlson of Alta, Iowa; children: Colleen (Barry) Carlson of Storm Lake, Iowa; Daryl Carlson of Plymouth, Washington; Steve (Deb) Carlson of Alta, Iowa; Dave (Sally) Carlson of Aurelia, Iowa; grandchildren: Eric (Janice) Carlson; Evan (Romelia) Carlson; Alisa Carlson; Robbie Carlson; Stephanie Carlson; Jennifer Carlson; Jeffrey Carlson; Kirk Carlson; great grandchildren: Natalie, Caleb, Ady, and Ethan; brother, Merlyn McGarry of Baker, Oregon; sisters: Beth (Darrel) Hotovec of Pocahontas, Iowa; Kathy Vosika of Twin Lakes, Iowa; extended family and many friends. Jane was preceded in death by her parents: Lawrence and Mildred McGarry; brothers-in-law: Ron Osweiler and Richard Vosika; sister-in-law, Vickie McGarry; and niece, Michelle Osweiler.
