James Lee Tauber

James L. Tauber, age 68, of Fonda, Iowa died Tuesday, October 18, 2016 at his home in Fonda. Funeral Mass will be held Friday, October 21, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will take place Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at the church. The Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda is in charge of the arrangements. James Lee Tauber was born June 28, 1948 in Carroll, Iowa, the son of Otto and Laura (Bruch) Tauber. Jim was baptized as an infant in Mt. Carmel, Iowa, and later confirmed at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda, in 1956. He attended school in Las Vegas, Nevada, graduating from Valley High in 1967. After graduation, Jim joined the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1970. On November 21, 1969, Jim was united in marriage to Alice Miller at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Together, the couple was blessed with nine children: Chris, Gwen, Ann, Jamie, Amy, Keri, Jeremy, Jill, and Lisa. Jim devoted his life to his faith, family and farming. He loved Farmall tractors and could often be found supervising the farm operations of the Tauber farms. He was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Jim also was a member of the VFW and was devoted to the Fonda Casey’s “Coffee Club”. Jim’s personality was one-of-a-kind. He enjoyed visiting residents at the Fonda Care Center, watching the birds, and going around town gathering a wide assortment of tomatoes. Many people will remember Jim for greeting the people of Fonda as they drove down Main Street. Most of all, Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, and friend to many. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Alice Tauber of Fonda, Iowa; children: Chris (Michelle) Tauber of Omaha, Nebraska; Gwen (Brian) Krie of Mt. Vernon, Indiana; Ann (Mark) Coleman of Olympia, Washington; Jamie (Mary) Tauber of Fonda, Iowa; Amy (Tony) Stauber of Fonda, Iowa; Keri (Tom) Ryherd of Alta, Iowa; Jeremy Tauber of Fonda, Iowa; Jill (Jeremiah) Stauter of Fonda, Iowa; Lisa (Kris) Dean of Pleasant Hill, Oregon; grandchildren: Kailyn, Brendan, and AJ Tauber; Madison, Dayton, and Alivia Krie; Alan and Alex Coleman; Sydney, Ty, Trevor and Taya Tauber; Brittany, Tim, and Stacey Stauber; Justine, Michael, and Kiersten Ryherd; Emma, Mariah, and Brady Stauter; Michael, Kayla, and Amanda Dean; two great grandsons; mother, Laura Tauber of Las Vegas, Nevada; sisters: Joan Fincher of Las Vegas, Nevada; Ann (Berner) Levos of Henderson, Nevada; Jeanne (Tom) Gugino of Las Vegas, Nevada; extended family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his father, Otto Ralph Tauber; brothers: Alan and Tom Tauber; grandparents: Joseph and Anna Bruch, Otto and Emma Tauber; parents-in-law: Art and Veronica Miller; and brother-in-law, Hal Fincher.
