James Sliefert

James “Jim” Sliefert, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa died August 3, 2014 at his home in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 7, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery with full Military Rites by the Alta VFW. Visitation will take place Wednesday, August 6, 2014 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. James Dale Sliefert was born December 17, 1938 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Arthur and Dollie (Hemm) Sliefert. He attended school in Storm Lake. He then joined the Navy where he served on the USS Higbee for nearly four years as an electricians mate. He was employed for many years at Hy-Grade in Storm Lake and Wilsons in Cherokee. He was a volunteer member of the Storm Lake Fire Department which was a great source of pride and joy for him. On April 7, 1989, Jim was united in marriage to Sharon Boger. They spent twenty-five very happy years together. Family was the most important thing to Jim. At any given time, you could find Jim in his garage either working on a project with a grandchild or coming up with a plan to fix something at one of his kids’ homes. He was always up to the challenge. He enjoyed going out for breakfast with his brothers and teasing each other about whose turn it was to buy. Most of all he enjoyed time with family and friends. Some of his favorite times were spent with grandchildren rolling around with them on the floor when they were little to razzing them about their love lives as they grew up. Having parties with the neighbors was a great joy to Jim. Affectionately known as “Tool Time Jim,” he could repair almost anything and was always willing to help others with their projects. He was always working on two or three projects while dreaming up the next one. Jim lived his life to the fullest, loved his wife and family dearly and treasured his grandchildren. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon Sliefert of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Brent (Joni) Sliefert of Overland Park, Kansas; Shelley (Dennis) Downing of Olathe, Kansas; Trent (Jenifer) Sliefert of Storm Lake, Iowa; Trisha Boger of Storm Lake, Iowa; and Rob Boger of Rochester, New York; grandchildren: Alyson Downing, Zach Sliefert, Trey Sliefert, Jackson Sliefert, Breanna Downing, Michala Sliefert, Sam Sliefert, Dylan Sliefert, Jesse Boger, Shawn Boger, Cody Boger, Matt Collins, Jennifer Downing, Joseph (Samantha) Downing; great grandchild, Cole Downing; brother, Don (Dianne) Sliefert of Alta, Iowa; sisters: Pat Herpst of Storm Lake, Iowa; Shirley (Peter) Despotovich of Omaha, Nebraska; Mary Hubbell of Omaha, Nebraska; sister-in-law, Vivian Sliefert; extended family and friends. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Betty Kowalski and husband, Alves; two brothers, Junior Sliefert and Harold Sliefert; brothers-in-law, Albert Herpst and Art Hubbell.
