James "Jim" Leo Browning

James "Jim" Browning, age 79, of Early, Iowa passed away on Wednesday, May 16, 2018 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will take place Wednesday, May 30, 2018 from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with a Military service at 6:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. James L. Browning was born December 22, 1938 in Sioux City, Iowa the son of Robert Lowell and Loretta (Cantin) Browning. Growing up, he attended school in Jefferson, South Dakota. On May 15, 1956, James enlisted in the United States Marines. He was a lineman and also did training of others as well. He was honorably discharged on April 10, 1959. Upon returning home, Jim worked for the Sioux City Schools for 36 years until his retirement. In his spare time, Jim enjoyed being outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He loved making fishing lures for many years. Jim is also known for his woodworking and craftsmanship skills. Family was important to Jim and he will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. On March 1, 2012, Jim was united in marriage to Sharon K. Speth at the First Presbyterian Church in Battle Creek, Iowa. Jim had four children from a previous marriage with Reba of 50 years: Daniel, Mary, Nancy, and Sandy. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Sharon Browning of Early, Iowa; children: Daniel Browning (Deb Hammer) of Vermillion, South Dakota; Mary Browning of Sioux City, Iowa; Nancy (Tony) Harrell of Coleridge, Nebraska; Sandy Redding of Sioux City, Iowa; grandson, Cameron Redding; sister, LouAnn Lund of Leeds, Iowa; stepchildren: Mark (Keri) Shadlow of Storm Lake, Iowa; Dale (Tammy) Shadlow of Roland, Iowa; Diane (Mark) Minnmann of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; step grandchildren: Stephanie (Beto) Vasquez; Kayla (Eddie) Hernandez; Aaron Shadlow; Melissa Shadlow; Cassie Shadlow; Zachary Shadlow; Cheyenne (Trent) Morton; Alison Chindlund; Caleb Chindlund; Victoria Chindlund; six step great grandchildren; brother-in-law, Richard “Dick” (Darlene) Speth; sister-in-law, Betty Schoenfeld; extended family and many friends. James was preceded in death by his parents: Robert and Loreta Browning; wife, Reba in October of 2009; and brother-in-law, Gordon Lund. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family of James L. Browning.
