Irene D. Mullen

Irene D. Mullen, age 83, of Fonda, Iowa died February 6, 2013 at the Fonda Nursing and Rehab Center in Fonda. Irene D. Siedhoff was born March 14, 1929 in Crete, Nebraska, the daughter of Frank and Irene (Husa) Siedhoff. She was baptized, received First Communion, and was confirmed into the Catholic faith. Growing up, she attended school and graduated from Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School in 1946. Following high school graduation, she attended Commercial Extension College in Omaha. On January 3, 1952, Irene was united in marriage to Arthur J. Mullen at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Together, they were blessed with twelve children: Dyann, Sandra, Bonnie, Robert, Janet, Daniel, Lori, John, Sharon, Patricia, Francy and Nancy. Irene was employed at Minneapolis Moline Company in Omaha, Twin Draulics in Laurens, and M & JR Hakes Company in Fonda. She was a member of the Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda where she belonged to Catholic Daughters of America and the Holy Family Society. Irene will be remembered as a kind and loving mother who treasured her family. She always put her family first. Irene enjoyed her time on the farm. In her spare time, she loved gardening, traveling, bowling and playing solitaire on the computer. Irene also enjoyed cross stitching and playing cards with her grandchildren. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were her pride and joy. Irene will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Dyann (Randy) Edwards of Norwalk, Iowa; Sandra (Dave) Truelsen of Gibbon, Nebraska; Bonnie (Rod) Wells of Fonda, Iowa; Janet (Dave) Thoren of Boone, Iowa; Danny (Esther) Mullen of Fonda, Iowa; Lori (Lannie) Lohnes of Council Bluffs, Iowa; John (Lisa) Mullen of Omaha, Nebraska; Sharon (Doug) Myers of Sac City, Iowa; Patty (Ray) Imming of Fonda, Iowa; Francy (Brian) Schares of Fairfax, Iowa; Nancy (Mark) Wessels of Polk City, Iowa; 24 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends. Irene was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Irene (Husa) Siedhoff; her husband, Arthur Mullen in 1979; son, Bob Mullen in 1979; two grandchildren: Michelle (Truelsen) Christensen and Michael Truelsen; brothers: Leonard and Joseph Siedhoff; sister, Eleanor (Siedhoff) Flessner and her infant son.
