Frances Ann Blum

Frances A. Blum, age 69, of Schaller, Iowa died Friday, August 19, 2016 at Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, Nebraska Funeral Mass will be held Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller. Burial will follow in the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Schaller. Visitation will take place Monday, August 22, 2016 from 5-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:00 p.m. all at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Frances A. Schmitt was born September 13, 1946 to John and Bertha (Engel) Schmitt in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized as an infant at the Sacred Heart Church in Early, Iowa where she was later confirmed. She attended school at Sacred Heart School in Early, Iowa where she graduated in 1964. Fran then went on to a business school in Sioux City, Iowa where she graduated with an Associate’s Degree in 1966. She worked for Methodist Manor in Storm Lake. On September 1, 1967 Fran was united in marriage to Loren “Butch” Blum at the Sacred Heart Church in Early, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with three children: Loren “Butch” Jr., Ray, and Stephanie. Fran was a member of the St. Joseph’s Church in Schaller, where she served on the Rosary Society. Fran enjoyed making ceramics and communion cups. She loved spending time with family and especially enjoyed going to her grandkids ball games. Fran will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Butch of Schaller, Iowa; children: Loren “Butch”, Jr. (Lisa) Blum of Rock Valley, Iowa; Ray (Lynnette) Blum of Hudsonville, Michigan; Stephanie (Michael) Brinkman of Early, Iowa; grandchildren: Jordan, Jared, Jenna Blum; Sammy, Lizzy, Ben Blum; Katie, Jacob, Luke Brinkman; brothers: Ed (Sandy) Schmitt of Early, Iowa; George (Sandy) Schmitt of Wall Lake, Iowa; sister, Helen (Don) Henrich of Merrill, Iowa; sister-in-law, Susan Schmitt of Early, Iowa, and many extended family members. Fran was preceded in death by her parents: John and Bertha Schmitt; and brothers: Lawrence and Leonard (Mary) Schmitt.
