Erma Christensen

Erma Christensen, age 85, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at Countryside Senior Living in Sioux City, Iowa. Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, November 24, 2014 at St. John's Church in rural Peterson, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 4-7:00 p.m., Sunday, November 23, 2014 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Arrangements are under the direction of the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Erma Leone Kracht was born to the union of George C. Kracht and Lulu Rosina Marie Tigges on February 17, 1929. She grew up in Peterson, Iowa. Erma was baptized and remained a longtime member of St. John’s UCC in rural, Peterson. Erma graduated from Brooke High School in Peterson. On June 4, 1948, Erma was united in marriage to Calvin C. Christensen at St. John’s UCC Church in rural Peterson. To this union, five children were born: Robert Darrell, Calvin Duane, Candace Elaine, Darwin Dean and Cheryl Jean. The family moved to Storm Lake in 1959. Erma was an active member of the B.P.W. for 32 years, a hospital volunteer for 24 years, and worked for Dr. Robert Malliard for 20 years. She enjoyed bowling from 1961-2008. Erma and Calvin were also long time members of the Elk’s Club. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Calvin “Dewey” (Becky) Christensen of Sioux City, Iowa; Candace Mason of Riverton, Wyoming; Cheryl (Bill) Struve of Noblesville, Indiana; grandchildren: Cory (Shelly) Christensen; Wendy Christensen; Jessica (Ben) Watson; Misty Mason, Matt (Amy) Mason; Hope Scott; Heath (Cherie) Struve; and Holly Struve; great grandchildren: Devon, Kylee and Ryan Scott; Zachary and Nathan Struve; Hannah Struve; Caleb Sassman; Crew, Nash and Bryan Christensen; Anniston and Madden Watson; Addison Mason; brothers: Herb (Iva Mae) Kracht; Ronnie Kracht; sisters: Jean Saunders and Luella Reed; extended family and friends. Preceding Erma in death are her parents; her husband, Calvin; two sons: Robert Darrell Christensen and Darwin Dean Christensen; brother, Robert Kracht; sisters: Marjorie Murphy, Janet Hoover and Arlene Brown; son-in-law, Marty Mason; brothers-in-law: Bruce Saunders and Jim Reed.
