Donna Larsen

Donna J. Larsen, age 83, of Newell, Iowa passed away September 6, 2022 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will take place Monday, September 12, 2022 at 9:30 a.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will be in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Sunday, September 11, 2022 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be distributed according to Donna's wishes. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Donna Larsen was born April 17, 1939 to Edward and Helga (Pedersen) Hoberman in Storm Lake, Iowa. She was baptized at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Newell on May 21, 1939. She was confirmed in her faith at St. Peter Lutheran Church on March 29, 1953. She attended Newell School, graduating in 1957. Donna married Royce Larsen in 1957 and the couple was blessed with three daughters: Kimberly, Terri and Synthia. Donna held jobs at Iowa State University and in Newell at Taylor’s Market and Bireline Publishing. She also served on the Newell City Council and Park Board. Her life was her church. She started playing the organ at age nine and served as organist for over 74 years at St. Peter Lutheran Church, as well as First Congregational Church in Newell. She played for over 200 weddings, as well as many funerals. She was always willing to accompany the choir, soloists and functions out-of-town. Donna enjoyed playing cards and never missed a college basketball game on television. She loved staying up late to watch a good movie. She was a faithful Mustang fan and always enjoyed attending her grandkids activities. She was preceded in death by her father: Eddie in 1995; her mother: Helga in 1996; brother: Richard Hoberman in 2021; and her special friend: Donald “Shorty” Galbraith in 2008. Donna is survived by her daughters: Kim (Mary Beth Shahoda) Larsen of Asheville, North Carolina; Terri (Doug) Demers of Blair, Nebraska and their children: Stephanie (Zach) Iverson of Brandon, South Dakota; Amy (friend Andrew) Demers of Wichita, Kansas; Michael (fiance’ Sarah) Demers of Elkhorn, Nebraska; Cindy (Duane) Magnussen of Newell, Iowa and their children: Cole (Ashley) Magnussen of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Morgan (Cole) Feltner of Alta, Iowa; great-grandkids: Sawyer and Walker Magnussen and Baby Iverson, expected in December.
