David E. Drey

David E. Drey, age 64, of Storm Lake, Iowa died June 29, 2021 at his home surrounded by his wife and kids. Funeral Mass will be Friday, July 2, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date. Visitation will be Thursday, July 1, 2021 from 4-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. A vigil service will be held at 7:30 p.m. followed by a KC Rosary at the funeral home Thursday July 1, 2021. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed in Dave's name to the Bridge of Storm Lake and BVRMC Oncology. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. David E. Drey was born February 16, 1957 to Joseph and Marian (Berger) Drey in Sac City, Iowa. Dave attended grade school at Sacred Heart in Early, Iowa. Dave went on to high school at St. Mary’s in Storm Lake, Iowa where he graduated in 1975. Dave graduated from Benedictine College in 1979 in Atchinson, Kansas with a degree in Business and Economics. Dave was a part of many organizations: Knights of Columbus member, Senior Server, Eucharist Minister, served on the BVRMC Foundation Board, served on Faith, Hope, and Charity Board, and St. Mary’s Foundation Board. Dave was happily married to Mary Robel on September 1, 1979. They were married at the St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. Dave and Mary were blessed with four children: Katie, Becky, Ryan, and Andy. Dave enjoyed farming, the Kansas City Chiefs, boating, and most of all, his children and grandchildren. His nephew, Aaron, described it perfectly when he said one can always see the quiet generosity in Dave. Those left to cherish his memories are his wife: Mary Drey of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Katie (Adam) Pickett of Leawood, Kansas; Becky (Tim) Greer of Peculiar, Missouri; Ryan (Megan) Drey of Waterloo, Iowa; Andy Drey of Overland Park, Kansas; grandchildren: Finnegan, Charlotte, and Beckett Drey; Ava and Emmy Pickett; brothers: Marv (Therese) Drey; Biz (Rhonda) Drey; Kevin (Sue) Drey; Alan (Linda) Drey; sisters: Donna (Doug) Carlson; Joan (Bob) Buelt; and Marilyn (Brent) Peters. Dave is preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Marian Drey; parents-in-law, Howard and Elaine Robel; and sister, Barbara Drey. A special thanks to Dr. John Armstrong, Dr. Scott Wuelfekuhler, Dr. Raed Al-Rajabi, St. Croix Hospice, GI oncologist of KU Medical Center, and the nurses and staff of BVRMC Oncology for all of their dedication and support.
