Carolyn Reiling

Carolyn Reiling, age 80, of Rembrandt, Iowa died Saturday, May 2, 2015 at her home. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, May 9, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Saint Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids. Burial will follow in the Lone Tree Cemetery in Sioux Rapids. Visitation will take place Friday, May 8, 2015 from 5-7:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 6:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Carolyn Rae Youngdahl was born May 31, 1934 in Lake City, Iowa, the daughter of Carol and Aletha (Ausborn) Youngdahl. She received her education in Storm Lake and graduated from Storm Lake High School with the class of 1952. Following graduation, Carolyn attended the Omaha School of Business for one year. On November 28, 1953, Carolyn was united in marriage to Ralph Reiling in Fort Riley, Kansas. This union was blessed with six children: Stephen, Rodney, Carol, Debra, Glenda and Wendy. Carolyn was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux Rapids, where she served as a member of the ladies guild. She worked as a librarian for many years in addition to bookkeeping. Being active in her community was demonstrated in her dedication to the Merry Matrons, 4-H Leader and Cub Scouts Leader. Over the years, Carolyn enjoyed reading, bird watching, and playing cards (solitaire), gardening, baking and going to the casino. More than anything, she adored and loved her family and will be forever remembered as a loving and dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister, aunt and friend. Those left to cherish Carolyn’s memory include her husband of 61 years, Ralph Reiling of Rembrandt; children: Rodney (Kathy) Reiling of Sioux Rapids, Iowa; Carol (Darwin) Johnson of Arthur, Iowa; Debra (Roy) Swenson of Springfield, Nebraska; Glenda Reiling of Des Moines, Iowa; Wendy (Tony) Brown of Pembroke Pines, Florida; daughter-in-law, Judy Reiling of Statesboro, Georgia; 15 grandchildren: Michael Reiling, Jessica Reiling, Brad (Michelle) Reiling, Todd (Megan) Reiling, Tricia Reiling, Ryan Reiling, Jake (Brittany) Reiling, Katie Reiling, Josh Reiling, Bridget Johnson, Gus Swenson, Leo Swenson, Cassandra Brown, Noah Brown and Myles Brown; two great grandchildren: Blake and Beau Johnson; sister-in-law, Marlys Youngdahl of Lakeside, Iowa; many nieces and nephews; and many friends. Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Marvin Youngdahl; and son, Stephen.
