Bonnie M. Eckerman

Bonnie M. Eckerman, age 84, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Friday, October 2, 2015 at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be held Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein, Iowa. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery in Holstein. Visitation will take place Tuesday, October 6, 2015 from 5-8:00 p.m. with a rosary service at 7:30 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Bonnie Marie Miller was born June 11, 1931 in Cherokee, Iowa, the daughter of Elmer and Marie (Raymond) Miller. Bonnie was baptized into the Catholic faith, and was later confirmed. She attended country school through eighth grade, graduating from Schaller High School in 1949. On November 8, 1950, Bonnie was united in marriage to Romane Eckerman, son of Elmer and Pearl Eckerman, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Schaller, Iowa. Together they were blessed with four children: Rick, Curt, Deb, and Jean. Bonnie was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Holstein where she served as a CCD teacher for over twenty years. Bonnie became a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church once she moved to Storm Lake. She was a very faithful woman, and was always willing to volunteer at church. One of Bonnie’s greatest joys in life were her children. She loved knitting and crocheting for family members, especially blankets for her grandchildren. She enjoyed playing board games and cards with her grandchildren, but was also a great caretaker when her mother became older. She will be remembered for her wonderful cooking and baking skills. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her daughters: Deb Leith of Urbandale, Iowa; Jean (Jeff) Chindlund of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Erin Eckerman, Kelli Eckerman, Hanna Finney, Traci (Jason) Osborne, Mike Leith (fiancé, Tracy), Kristi Meyer, Lori (Josh) Griffith, Andrew Chindlund, Sarah Chindlund; eleven great grandchildren; brother, Elmer (Vivian) Miller of Prescott, Arizona; Darlene (Don) Saathoff of Baxter, Minnesota; brother-in-law, Tom (Sharon) Eckerman; sister-in-law, Mary Jo Eckerman; extended family and many friends. Bonnie was preceded in death by her parents; parents-in-law; husband, Romane; two sons, Rick and Curt; and son-in-law, Bill Leith.
