Beverly Ann Smith

Beverly Ann Smith, age 76, of Alta, Iowa died on November 9, 2022. Memorial Services will be held Monday, November 14, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. Burial will be in the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the FUNERAL HOME. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of arrangements. Beverly Ann Smith was born March 28, 1946 to LeRoy and Joan (Peterson) Sassman in Storm Lake, Iowa. Growing up she attended Alta Community School, graduating in 1964. She was baptized at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rembrandt. Bev confirmed her faith at Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta where she remained a faithful member. Bev was united in marriage to Loren King in Spencer. She later met Jerry Smith in Des Moines, and they were married in Las Vegas, Nevada. After high school, Bev was employed at Northwestern Bell Telephone Company in Spencer. She later moved to Des Moines and continued her employment with the telephone company in management and training. After retirement from the telephone company, she moved to Schaller, and enjoyed time with all her extended family. During this time, Bev was employed at Family Health Center in Storm Lake, and enjoyed volunteering at the school in Schaller. She later moved to Odebolt where she enjoyed hobbies such as flower gardening, playing cards with friends, and always being available to spend time with her family in the area. She continued her volunteer work at the school in Odebolt. Most recently, Bev lived in Alta, and enjoyed helping care for her mother and spending time with her siblings. Bev’s family was most important to her, and she always worked to stay connected with them. Bev loved traveling domestically and internationally, including China, England, and Italy. She enjoyed a winter home in Arizona for several years. Bev is survived by her brother Jim Sassman of Spencer, Iowa; sister Nancy (Ron) Sanderman of Schaller, Iowa; brother Gary (Renee) Sassman of Whitewater, Wisconsin; and brother Kevin (Sam Smith) Sassman of Des Moines, Iowa; ten nieces and nephews; nineteen grand nieces and nephews; and extended family and friends. She is preceded in death by her parents: LeRoy and Joan Sassman; brother: Steve (Denise) Sassman; and brother: Randy Sassman.
