Betty J. Clapp

Betty Jean Samuelson Clapp moved to her new home in heaven on June 4, 2018 while at Ava’s hospice house in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Funeral services will be held on Friday, June 8, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at the Riverside Evangelical Free Church in Linn Grove. Burial will be in the Barnes Township Cemetery in Linn Grove. Visitation will take place on Thursday, June 7, 2018 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Betty Jean Samuelson, the daughter of Oliver and Josie (Knudtson) Samuelson was born near Royal, Iowa, on December 27, 1930. She asked Jesus Christ to be her Savior the same day as her new husband, Troy, of 2 months while attending the Okoboji Lakes Bible and Missionary Conference in August of 1948. Betty received her education at the Linn Grove Consolidated School and graduated with the Class of 1948. On June 6, 1948, Betty was united in marriage to Troy Richard Clapp at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Linn Grove, Iowa, and this union was blessed with two children: Paula Jean and Paul Richard. Betty and Troy’s married lifetime was dedicated to their farming vocation and poultry business. In 2011, they moved to Storm Lake where they made their home. During her lifetime she had worked at the Spider’s Web in Webb, Iowa. Betty had been a member of the Geneva Fellowship and the Women’s Organization at the Riverside Presbyterian Church and also served at the church’s historian for many years. Betty and Troy were affiliated for many years with the First Baptist Church at Webb, Iowa. She was gifted in sewing, making quilts, and doing embroidery work. Betty had a servant’s heart and you could always find her serving in church as a Sunday School Teacher and an AWANA leader. She will be remembered for her delicious angel food cakes and especially making smaller cakes she would share with those in the nursing home. Betty also had a love for flowers, especially red roses, and she was musically talented and could play the piano “by ear”. Betty was a woman of great faith and her life was a testimony of her love for the Lord. Betty’s life is celebrated and honored by her family which include her children: Paula (Lowell) Bartels of Beresford, South Dakota, and Paul Clapp of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, her grandchildren: Brent (Emily) Bartels of Beresford, South Dakota, Janey (Erik) Case of Tea, South Dakota, Kirsten (Geoff) Clark of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Mark (Lexanne) Clapp of Sioux Rapids, Iowa, and Michele (Colin) Hogrefe of Linn Grove, Iowa, her great grandchildren: Landen Bartels, Carson Case, Conner Case, Benjamin Case, Cael Hogrefe and Brandt Hogrefe, nieces, nephews, other extended family and many friends. She was preceded by her husband: Troy, on July 4, 2014, her parents: Oliver and Josie Samuelson, her brother and sister-in-law: Robert and Lois Samuelson, her sister, Mary Lee Samuelson, her brothers-in-law: Lawrence (Dorothy) Rusk and Dwight (Mary) Clapp. In lieu of flowers, Betty has requested that memorials may be directed to Okoboji Lakes Bible and Missionary Conference, Bibles For The World, or Samaritan's Purse.
