B. Jeanette Buckingham

Jeanette Buckingham, age 92, of Alta, Iowa died Thursday, January 30, 2014 at North Lake Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa. B. Jeanette Johnson was born April 13, 1921 in Aurelia, Iowa, the daughter of Edwin and Norma (Johnson) Johnson. Jeanette was baptized April 18, 1921 at her home. She was confirmed on April 6, 1938 at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. After graduating from the Aurelia High School, she worked as a bookkeeper for the Peterson Department Store in Alta and J.C. Penney Company in Storm Lake. On October 10, 1943, Jeanette was united in marriage to Craig Buckingham at the Trinity Lutheran Church in Alta. This union was blessed with three children: Norma, Jayne and Alan. Throughout the years, Jeanette enjoyed raising her family and was a valuable partner working with her husband on the farm. She also spent many hours working outside with her flowers, garden, and fishing with family members. Jeanette was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed sewing garments for her family and doll collection. She had a passion for handwork which included knitting, crocheting, embroidery, quilting, and painting. Jeanette traveled extensively in the United States with her family and on bus tours. She loved visiting Canada and Sweden. Jeanette was committed to Trinity Lutheran Church where she was very active in all church organizations. She was also active in her community as a member of the Nokomis Study Club, National Federated Womenâ€™s Club, Eastern Star, and Country Ramblers. Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Norma (Craig) Halverson of Newton, Iowa; Jayne (David) Nestor of Sheldon, Iowa; Al (Kathi) Buckingham of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Katie (Sean) Adams of Newton, Iowa; Kurtis Halverson of West Chicago, Illinois; Emily (Mark) Truckenbrod of Gig Harbor, Washington; Kyle Nestor of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Dan (Katie) Buckingham of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Jeff Buckingham of Webster City, Iowa; great-grandchildren: Seth, Kylee, and Haylee Adams; Vance Henry Halverson; and extended family and friends. Jeanette was preceded in death by her husband, Craig Buckingham; parents, Edwin and Norma Johnson; sisters: Gladys Johnson, Hazel (Ivan) Howard, Georgia (Barney) Campbell.
