Arthur Olaf Williams

Art Williams, age 80, of Fonda, Iowa died January 31, 2014 at St. Luke's Regional Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. Arthur Olaf Williams was born on February 20, 1933 in Fonda, Iowa to Eric and Ingeborg (Ness) Williams. Growing up, he attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Fonda Community School in 1951. On September 28, 1951, he was united in marriage to Alice Fritz in Emmetsburg, Iowa. They were blessed with 62 years together and five children: Maralyn, Diane, Debi, Dennis, and David. Family was very important to Art, and he took great pride in attending his childrenâ€™s and grandchildrenâ€™s activities. He started with tractor rides as toddlers to graduations and weddings. He was always there. To Art, farming was more than a way to make a living but was a way of living. He planted and harvested over 60 times. In addition, he owned and operated a grain trucking business that served the surrounding communities. He worked for the Mahaney Funeral Home in Fonda where he was a very valuable asset. Art enjoyed golfing and bowling often playing with friends and family. He could be found at Caseyâ€™s for Bible study at 6:00 a.m. religiously. He was a constant, quiet cheerleader at the Newell-Fonda Mustang sporting events. Art was also a lifelong avid New York Yankees fan. Art was a member of the United Church of Christ in Fonda where he served the congregation in many roles. Always actively involved in the community, he volunteered for various committees over the years such as the Cemetery Board, Fonda Golf Course Board, was a Township Trustee, and worked on the Windmill Project. In addition, Art served on the Fonda Community School Board as a member and president for many years, including during the school reorganization. Art will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Arthur will be greatly missed by his wife, Alice of Fonda; daughters: Maralyn (Ron) McLaughlin of Fonda; Diane (Steve) Hamilton of Storm Lake; Debi (Don) Spaulding of Fonda; sons: Dennis (Monica) Williams of Sioux Rapids; David (Jenny) Williams of Sioux City; grandchildren: Corey McLaughlin (fiancÃ©e Shelby) of Pomeroy; Jaci (Kirk) Johnson of Newell; Molly Hamilton of Chicago, IL; Stacy (Ralph) Renteria of West Des Moines; Patti (Bud) Deppe of Plainfield, IL; Jill (Marty) McCaughey of Washington, IL; Matthew Spaulding of Grimes; Joee (Jordan) Winter of Albert Lea, MN; Bryce (Melany) Williams of Roseville, MN; Tyson (Shannon) Williams of Madison, WI; and Travis (fiancÃ©e Richelle) Williams of Ann Arbor, MI; great-grandchildren: Trevor and Brayden Johnson, Ashley and Katie Renteria, Megan and Nicholas Deppe, Jimmy, Anna, and Luke McCaughey, Lydia Williams and Twin A and Twin B Williams; sisters: Kris (Dudley) Overmeyer of Citrus Heights, CA; Judy (Robert) Reed of West Plains, MO; Evie Cole of Altoona; Caroline Boettcher of Fonda; Doris (Rubert) Erickson of Pomery; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law; Don Fritz, of Fonda; Wes (Marge) Fritz of Fonda; Norman Fritz of Fonda and Marcella Boland of Gowrie; also many nieces and nephews and an abundance of friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; great-granddaughter, Sarah Deppe; brothers-in-law: Gary Boettcher, Jim Boland, Richard Cole, Lester Fritz; and sister-in-law, Edythe Fritz.
