Arlin W. "Mike" Sievers

Arlin W. "Mike" Sievers, age 88, of Storm Lake, Iowa died October 7, 2011 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Arlin was born March 15, 1923 at Grant Township in Buena Vista County the son of Albert and Mary (Burmeister) Sievers. On April 15, 1923, he was baptized at the Zion Lutheran Church in rural Storm Lake where he was later confirmed on March 21, 1937. Arlin also attended grade school at Zion Lutheran School. On March 14, 1945, Arlin enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Pacific Theater during World War II, until he was honorably discharged on December 8, 1946. On August 9, 1945, Arlin was united in marriage to LaVone Otto at St. Paulâ€™s Lutheran Church in Aurelia, Iowa. Together, they were blessed with six children: Gail, Virginia, Jan, Dan, Kathy, and Pamela. Arlin was a member of the American Legion Post 0390 of Aurelia. He was also a faithful member of the Zion Lutheran Church where he was a Trustee, on the Financial Board, and a member of the Menâ€™s Club. Arlin enjoyed farming and raising cattle. He loved camping, especially making the campfire. Arlin treasured his family and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, LaVone Sievers of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Gail DeMan of Alta, Iowa; Jan Sievers of Storm Lake, Iowa; Dan (Julie) Sievers of Storm Lake, Iowa; Pamela Smith of Lakeside, Iowa; son-in-law, James Scharber of Jamestown, North Dakota; grandchildren: Sherri (Eric) Robidoux of Simi Valley, California; Jesse DeMan of Alta, Iowa; Joseph (Stephanie) DeMan of Grafenwoehr, Germany; Kristin (Trevor) Bulger of Washougal, Washington; David (Barb) Scharber of Bethel, Minnesota; Adam Sievers of Cape Canaveral, Florida; Eric Sievers of Decorah, Iowa; Sawyer and Lydia Smith of Lakeside, Iowa; great grandchildren: Jon-Luc and Logan Robidoux; Balian and Elijah DeMan; Jessica and Galen Bulger; Ethan, Gavin, Caleb and Jacob Scharber; extended family and friends. Arlin was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Mary Sievers; daughters, Kathy Sievers and Virginia Scharber; and one brother, Lorenz Sievers.
