Arlene Vilas

Arlene Frances Vilas, age 98 of Storm Lake, Iowa, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, April 14, 2021 at Methodist Manor in Storm Lake, after a short battle with cancer. Celebration of Life service will take place Friday, July 23, 2021 from 3-6:00 p.m. at the KC Hall in Storm Lake. Private family burial will be at a later date. Memorials can be made in Arlene’s memory to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Auxiliary or The Storm Lake United Methodist Church. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Arlene was born in Clearbrook, Minnesota on February 27, 1923. She was the daughter of Martin and Myrtle (Poulson) Moen. After graduating from high school in Canby Minnesota, she moved to Storm Lake where she met the love of her life, Dwain Vilas. They were married on August 28, 1943, in Sacramento, California, where Dwain was stationed in the army. Born to this union were four children, Ron, Sue, Sherry, and Diane. Arlene was a Cub Scout leader, involved in Eastern Star, a volunteer for the Red Cross, BVRMC hospital Auxiliary, and Meals on Wheels. Arlene was an avid golfer with many fond memories at the golf course. She enjoyed playing cards, crafting, and crocheting for her family. She also loved dancing, big band music and time spent at the Cobblestone Ballroom and The Elks Club. Arlene was active in the Methodist church in Storm Lake having been in a Circle for many years. She enjoyed traveling and spent many winters in Arizona. Arlene, a homemaker, always put family first. She loved to bake goodies for her family, neighbors and friends. She would never turn down a coffee party. When visiting Arlene, you would more times than not find her watching a Cubs game. Arlene was cherished and loved by her family which includes Ron (Ellen) Vilas of Monroe, North Carolina, Sue Vilas Cramer of Rohnert Park, California, Sherry (Bill) Vilas Neid of Grand Island, Nebraska and Diane (Don) Vilas Porter of Storm Lake, Iowa, a sister, Carol Olson of Peoria, Arizona, 8 grandchildren, Jennifer Forsberg, Mark Vilas, Jodie Clay, Erin Sickeri, MIchael Duff, James Duff, Nathan Porter and Amanda Vossberg, and 15 great grandchildren, and many cousins, nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Mrytle and Martin Moen, her husband, Dwain Vilas, brothers, Glen Moen and Richard Moen, and sister Bernice Zuelke, Grandson, Bob Duff, and great granddaughters Grace Vossberg and Ericka Sickeri. Memorials can be made in Arlene’s memory to Buena Vista Regional Medical Center Auxiliary or The Storm Lake United Methodist Church.
