Alice "Bea" Goodwin

Alice "Bea" Goodwin, age 91, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Monday, March 17, 2014 at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake. Alice “Bea” LeVake was born February 18, 1923 in Jackson Township in Poweshiek County, Iowa, the daughter of Thomas and Grace (Bryan) LeVake. Growing up, Alice attended school in Montezuma where she later graduated in 1941. On June 14, 1944 Alice was united in marriage to Vernon George Goodwin in Montezuma, Iowa. Together they were blessed with five children: Mary Beth, Barbara, Rebecca, Roberta, and Vernon. Bea was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Storm Lake. She was active in serving on the Communion committee and helped with other activities. Bea was active in her community by volunteering at the hospital, delivering Meals on Wheels, and the Hospital Auxilary. Most of all, Bea loved spending time with her family and friends. She really enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s events. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Mary Beth Sorensen of Panora, Iowa; Barbara McGowan of Carroll, Iowa; Roberta (Ron) Sargent of Storm Lake, Iowa; Vernon (Carolyn) Goodwin of Sioux City, Iowa; grandchildren: Angela (Mark) Kiefer, JJ (Tera) Sorensen, Janelle (Jason) VanVactor, Jim (Christy) McGowan, Pat (Kelly) McGowan, Paul McGowan, Mike McGowan, Andy (Shauna) McGowan, Jeff (Nicole) Harders, Jenny (Jamie) Bock, Ron (Missy) Sargent, Mike (Traci) Sargent, Tracy Taylor (Mike Witter), Rebecca Sargent, Nick (Alli) Goodwin, Katie Goodwin, Jason Kiliper; 37 great grandchildren; 9 great-great grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Verna Baird of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Bea Goodwin of Grinnell, Iowa; extended family and friends. Bea was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon; parents, Thomas and Grace; daughter, Rebecca Harders; three sons-in-law: Jerry Sorensen, Jim McGowan and Dan Harders; brother, Thomas LeVake; sister, Roberta Salmon Robinson; brothers-in-law: Grady Salmon, Walter Hall, Lyle Goodwin, Roy Baird, and Vernon Turner; sisters-in-law: Lillian LeVake, Eva Hall, Arlene Goodwin, and Maxine Turner.
