Veronica Mary Chase

Veronica M. Chase, age 78, of Fonda, Iowa died Tuesday, February 27, 2018 at Loring Hospital in Sac City. Funeral Mass will be held Saturday, March 3, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will follow in the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will take place Friday, March 2, 2018 from 4-7:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 6:30 p.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church. Memorials may be designated to the Ronald McDonald House, 730 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52246. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Veronica Mary Prendergast was born June 5, 1939 in Council Bluffs, Iowa, the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Duffy) Prendergast. Veronica attended school at Our Lady of Good Council Catholic School in Fonda where she graduated in 1957. She later earned a degree in Nursing Home Administration. She worked as an Administrator at the Albert City Pleasant View Home. On November 23, 1957, Veronica was united in marriage to Douglas Francis Chase in Fonda. Together, they were blessed with eight children: Julie, Mary, Margaret, Edward, Douglas, Daniel, Martin, and Catherine. Veronica was a life long member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. She served on the Holy Family Society, Council of Catholic Women, and the Legion of Mary. Veronica enjoyed being active within the church community. She also served on the Board of Directors of Loring Hospital in Sac City. Veronica enjoyed reading, playing cards, and politics. Most of all, Veronica loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her husband, Douglas F. Chase of Fonda, Iowa; children: Julie (Pat) Harrington of Pomeroy, Iowa; Mary (Rick) Krull of Fonda, Iowa; Margaret Tewes (friend, Neil Schook) of Blair, Nebraska; Edward (Rachel) Chase of Carroll, Iowa; Douglas (Mary) Chase of Omaha, Nebraska; Martin (Tawnya) Chase of Fonda, Iowa; Catherine (Tony) Strauss of Early, Iowa; twenty grandchildren; eleven great grandchildren; extended family and friends. Veronica was preceded in death by her parents, Edward and Margaret Prendergast; son, Daniel P. Chase; and grandson, Carson Daniel Chase. Memorials may be designated to the Ronald McDonald House 730 Hawkins Drive, Iowa City, Iowa 52246.
