Ronald Rubendall

Ronald "Rube" Rubendall, age 62, of Fonda, Iowa died on October 28, 2018 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, November 2, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda. Burial will be in the Mt. Zion Catholic Cemetery in Fonda. Visitation will take place on Thursday, November 1, 2018 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. and a KC rosary to follow at the CHURCH. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Ronald was born September 13, 1956 in Storm Lake, Iowa the son of Betty (Marron) and step-son of Art Hammen. Growing up, he was raised Catholic. Ron attended school in Sergeant Bluff and then Virginia prior to returning to Fonda where he attended Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic School and graduated in 1975. On November 5, 1983, Ron was united in marriage to Beth in Fonda. Together, they were blessed with four children: Chris, Tiffany, Nathan, and Noah. Ron was a member of Our Lady of Good Counsel Catholic Church in Fonda where he also served as a KC member. Ron was on the Fonda City Council and served on the OLGC Fonda School Board for many years. Ron owned and operated “The Haymarket” in Fonda and loved putting together pools for the big games. He also worked at the Fort Dodge Prison for 15 years and retired in 2014 as a correctional officer and hostage negotiator. He was very active in the community and enjoyed being involved. Ron led a fishing tournament for children in Fonda and was a little league and senior league baseball and basketball coach. Ron loved to golf and enjoyed competing in local tournaments. He enjoyed camping with family and friends. He also loved every aspect of Christmas including making candy and especially shopping with his mother. His family has many memories of him cooking Sunday breakfasts. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Beth of Fonda, Iowa; parents, Art and Betty Hammen; children: Chris (Amanda Monroe) Rubendall of Cherokee, Iowa; Tiffany (Eric) Flammang of Danbury, Iowa; Nathan (significant other, Violet Neal) Rubendall of Fonda, Iowa; Noah Rubendall of Fonda, Iowa; grandchildren: Leighton and Sebastian Rubendall; Ethan and Emily Flammang; Makenzie Wunschel, Maryann, Nathan Jr., and Hunter Rubendall; Aidan and Abby Rubendall; aunts; uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and many friends. Ron was preceded in death by his grandparents: Bud and Florence Marron and Leo and Florence Hammen.
