Ranae Knapton

Ranae Knapton, age 74, of Alta, Iowa died Thursday, June 16, 2022 at MercyOne Medical Center in Sioux City, Iowa. A Celebration of Life will take place Wednesday, June 22, 2022 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will be at a later date in the Storm Lake Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of arrangements. Ranae Knapton was born on January 28, 1948, to Harley and Wynona Overton of Storm Lake, Iowa. She grew up with her two sisters, Kay and Tonda, and brother, Ike. Over the years, Ranae and her family found creative ways to pass the time with many barefoot walks around town, fishing in the lake, and just spending time around the dining room table. Eventually on one random evening Ranae met Robert Knapton of Wells, Minnesota who was in town, because he was driving truck for his brother. Ranae and Robert were married June 17, 1966, in front of family and friends. Many years of fun followed while Ranae and Robert spoiled their many nieces and nephews while trying for a family of their own. They were often found camping with family friends, snowmobiling, or other activities around the area. After trying for several years, Robert and Ranae were blessed with a son, Jason. They spent lots of time camping as a family all over the Midwest and throughout the country. Trips to Florida, Texas, and Canada were among some of the farthest trips, but some of the most fun was had at the Sunrise Campgrounds in Storm Lake. Eventually camping and campers were traded for classic cars and car shows. She could be found with Robert traveling the countryside in one of their many classic cars. Ranae was finally given her most prize things in life; her two granddaughters, Miriam and Aureylian Knapton. Lots of time was spent with them playing games, getting her hair done, and so much more. Ranae enjoyed reading, puzzles, Yahtzee, many different crafts, and taking care of the many animals on the farm. There was always a trusty pup or a small herd of kittens to be fed or cared for. Ranae was preceded in death by her parents, Harley and Wynona Overton; sisters: Kay North, Tonda Wood, and brother: Ike Overton. Her memory will be cherished by her husband, Robert Knapton of Alta, Iowa; son: Jason (Jennifer) Knapton of Storm Lake, Iowa; granddaughters: Miriam and Aureylian Knapton; and many loving in-laws, nieces, nephews, and many long-time friends.
