Leland H. Radke

Leland H. Radke, age 88, of Alta, Iowa died Thursday, July 27, 2017 at Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Monday, July 31, 2017 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Burial will be in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Alta. Visitation will take place Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 4-6:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Alta is in charge of the arrangements. Leland Howard Radke was born December 14, 1928 in Galva, Iowa, the son of Fred and Marie (Winterhof) Radke. In his youth, he was confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Hanover, Iowa. He attended school in Hanover. On December 8, 1957, Leland was united in marriage to JoAnn F. Kent at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Alta. Together, they were blessed with four children: Brian, Lori, Tim, and Nancy. Leland founded and owned the Alta Implement Company. He dedicated many years to serving his customers. Leland was active in the Alta community serving as a former Alta city council member, and was a long-time member of the Alta Country Club. He enjoyed taking his grandchildren and neighbor kids to school for many years. Golfing was one of Leland’s favorite pastimes. He also enjoyed being a member of the Radke Barbershop Quartet. Most of all, Leland loved spending time with his family and friends. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory include his children: Brian (Lisa Herr) Radke of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Lori (Steve) Elliott of Waukee, Iowa; Tim (Paula) Radke of Alta, Iowa; Nancy (Gary) Snyder of Alta, Iowa; grandchildren: Erin and Lee Radke of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Dexter, Dylan and Alexis Herr of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Kyle Elliott of Lakewood, Colorado; Ryan Elliott of Waukee, Iowa; Nick and Ryan Radke of Alta, Iowa; Kelsi, Jenna, and Alex Snyder of Alta, Iowa; brother, Donald (Darlene) Radke; sister-in-law, Margaret Radke; brother-in-law, Harry Lundin; extended family and friends. Leland was preceded in death by his parents; wife, JoAnn in 2014; brothers: Harold (Vera) Radke, Ervin (Alice) Radke, Orville (Lola) Radke, Merle (Ruth) Radke, Wayne Radke, Darrell Radke; sisters: Darlene Lundin and Esther (Martin) Einspahr.
