Lavon Richardson

Lavon Richardson, age 75, of Storm Lake, Iowa died on Friday, December 7, 2018 at the Methodist Manor Retirement Community in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Monday, December 10, 2018 from 4:00-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in STORM LAKE. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Lutheran Hour, 660 Mason Ridge Center St. Louis, MO 63141 or Storm Lake Fire Department, 820 Oneida St. Storm Lake, IA 50588. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Lavon Irene Richardson, the daughter of Paul and Irene (Hartje) Rathke, was born on August 2, 1943 in Storm Lake. As an infant, she was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake and later confirmed in 1957 at the same church. Lavon attended grade school at Zion Parochial School until 8th grade and then attended high school in Truesdale where she graduated in 1961. Lavon furthered her education after high school by attending a 2-year business program at Mankato Business School in Minnesota. On March 6, 1965, Lavon was united in marriage to Marvin Richardson at Zion Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with two children, Kevin and Kimberly. Lavon was a switch board operator at the Buena Vista Regional Medical Center for 27 years and was an Avon Representative for many years. She was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Lavon was always known for her baking and sharing her talent with friends and family. Above all, she loved visiting her children and grandchildren in Oregon. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children, Kevin (Mary) Richardson of Hillsboro, Oregon and Kimberly (Sean) Mish of Portland, Oregon; sisters: Lois (Orlando) Leimer of Albert City, Iowa; Ladene (Bill) Chambers of Aurora, Colorado; LeAnn (Ivan) Klein of Gibbon, Nebraska; grandchildren: Simone Richardson of Hillsboro, Oregon; Alex Richardson of Hillsboro, Oregon; Kira Mish of Portland, Oregon; Zoe Mish of Portland, Oregon; and extended family and friends. Lavon was preceded in death by her husband, Marvin; parents, Paul and Irene Rathke; parents-in-law, Clarence and Margaret Richardson; and brother-in-law, Bill Chambers.
