Ernest Charles Bosley

Ernest "Ernie" Charles Bosley, age 86, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, September 24, 2016 at Mercy Medical Center in Sioux City. Funeral Mass will be held Thursday, September 29, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery with full military rites by the Alta VFW. Visitation will take place Wednesday, September 28, 2016 from 5-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake with a vigil service at 7:30 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Ernest “Ernie” Charles Bosley was born December 31, 1929 in Albert City, Iowa, the son of Claude and Nettie Kaufman (Gardner) Bosley. Ernie attended school in Storm Lake, graduating from Storm Lake High School in 1947. In 1947, Ernie joined the United States Navy. He served his country during the Korean War as a radio teletypist. He was honorably discharged in 1951. Upon returning home from the war, Ernie was united in marriage to Helen Ann Connell on June 16, 1952 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake. Together, the couple was blessed with six children: Kenneth LeRoy, Michael Charles, Kathleen Ann, Mary Kay, Thomas Joseph, and Teresa Jean. Ernie will be remembered as being a hard worker. Throughout his life, he was the office runner of Kingan, Pay Master at Hygrade, Storeroom Supervisor at IBP and later Tyson, and also sharpened saw blades for Hygrade. In his later years, he enjoyed driving for various auto dealerships, as well as being a personal chauffeur for many individuals. A “perfectionist”, as his family would describe him, was evident when it came to Ernie’s lawn or when it came to detailing his vehicles. Ernie loved pheasant and turkey hunting with his children and grandchildren. He also enjoyed bowling, roller skating, golfing, dancing at family events or gatherings, and riding his motorcycle, which led to his nickname, “Easy Rider”. In return, Ernie would give everyone else clever nicknames. Throughout Ernie’s 86 years of life, family always came first. He loved watching his children and grandchildren play in various activities, but especially enjoyed coming up with his own games such as, “hide the chips” or slapjack. Ernie’s one-of-a-kind personality will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. Those left to cherish his memory wife, Helen Bosley of Storm Lake, Iowa; children: Ken (Johanna) Bosley of Abita Springs, Louisiana; Mike Bosley of Aurelia, Iowa; Kathy Mummert of Storm Lake, Iowa; Mary (Ed) Larsen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Tom (Jodi) Bosley of Sioux City, Iowa; Teresa (Rick) Siewert of Perryton, Texas; grandchildren: Christa Furden of Abita Springs, Louisiana; Chad (Melissa) Bosley of Chicago, Illinois; Julie (Brian) Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; Sarah (Mike Bartling) Mummert of Storm Lake, Iowa; Katie (Colby) Smith of Lacona, Iowa; Molly (Nathan) Hippen of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Halie Larsen of Storm Lake, Iowa; Braden Bosley of Sioux City, Iowa; Beau Bosley of Sioux City, Iowa; Jennifer (Justin Buendia) Schwier of Amarillo, Texas; Cameron Siewert of Austin, Texas; Caroline Siewert of San Diego, California; great grandchildren: Abigail Bosley of Chicago, Illinois; Keegan, Kennadie, and Kale Miller of Storm Lake, Iowa; Emery, Billie, and Brooke Smith of Lacona, Iowa; Holden Hippen of Iowa Falls, Iowa; Landon and Case Buendia of Amarillo, Texas; brother-in-law, Dan (Linda) Connell of Storm Lake, Iowa; sister-in-law, Dorothy (Jack) Hammer of Springfield, Missouri; extended family and friends. Ernie was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Opal Bosley; maternal mother, Nettie Gardner; step-father, Frank Gardner; parents-in-law, Clarence and Mary Connell; and granddaughter, Heidi Mummert.
