Doug Peters

Doug Peters, age 73, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Sunday, September 2, 2018 at his home in Storm Lake. Funeral services will be held Friday, September 7, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will be in the Storm Lake Cemetery. Visitation will take place Thursday, September 6, 2018 from 5-7:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The family has requested that casual attire be worn. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Douglas Lee Peters was born April 27, 1945 to Lowell and Joy (Meyer) Peters in Storm Lake, Iowa. He was baptized on May 20, 1945 in Newell, Iowa and confirmed on May 17, 1959 at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. He enjoyed helping his grandfather farm, and later trucking livestock for Peters Bros Trucking. On August 15, 1964, Doug was united in marriage to Sharen Kay Hansen at St John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Three children were born to this marriage: Patrick, April and Matthew. They all worked hard during the week and enjoyed the weekends by going to movies and vacations. Doug was part of the pool league they had in Storm Lake and was very good at shooting pool. In 1971, Doug incorporated the trucking to Peters Trucking Inc. Doug enjoyed hauling cattle and hogs and was a hog buyer for John Morrell for 9 years. He then pursued the trucking hauling conversion vans to the west coast. He moved on to dry vans, hauling turkey feathers to Texas and onto California and bringing sunflower seed back for DeKalb. Doug in his later years hauled seed corn for Monsanto. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Sharen Peters of Storm Lake, Iowa; son, Patrick (Bridgett) Peters of Westville, Indiana; daughter, April Harding and fiancé, Gary Toyne of Palo, Iowa; son, Matthew (Jennifer) Peters of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Katie (Dan) McMullen of Treynor, Iowa; Megan (Jeremiah) Avise-Rousch of Clinton, Iowa; Jacquelyn (Brett) Newendorp of Pella, Iowa; Sadie (Brady) Santee of Omaha, Nebraska; Bradley (Emily) Harding of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kyle (Christin) Harding of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Kaylee Peters of Storm Lake, Iowa; great grandchildren: Logan and Trestyn Lawrence; Jacob and Spencer Harding; Ray Allen and Emrys Harding; Dorothy Joy McMullen and Noelle Avise-Rousch; many nieces and nephews; extended family and friends. Doug was preceded in death by his parents, Lowell and Joy Peters; in-laws, Maurice and Dorothy Hansen; brother, Dennis Peters; and brother-in-law, Harold Hansen.
