Arlene Marie Nielson

Arlene M. Nielson, age 86, of Newell, Iowa died Wednesday, March 22, 2017 at the Good Samaritan Society in Newell. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 28, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. Burial will follow in the St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery in rural Newell. Visitation will take place Monday, March 27, 2017 from 6-8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements. Arlene Marie Brummer was born September 4, 1930 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the daughter of Walter and Minnie (Bockhop) Brummer. In her youth, she was baptized and confirmed. Arlene attended school in Storm Lake where she graduated from Storm Lake High School. On June 4, 1949, Arlene was united in marriage to Leonard Dean Nielson in rural Newell. Together, they were blessed with four children: Lynn, Gloria, Sandra, and David. Arlene was a member of the United Church of Christ in Newell until its closing. She also participated in the Ladies Aid. Arlene enjoyed staying home to raise her family. After they were grown, she began working as a CNA at the Newell Good Samaritan Society and the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake. Sewing and reading were a few of Arlene’s favorite pastimes. She also enjoyed the yearly family vacations. Most of all, Arlene was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Lynn Linke of Storm Lake, Iowa; Gloria (Steven) Frehse of Spencer, Iowa; Sandra (Raymond) Krell of St. Charles, Missouri; David Nielson of Storm Lake, Iowa; grandchildren: Ajay (Stacie) Linke of Alta, Iowa; Jill (Keith) DeMey of Newell, Iowa; Brandon (Karla) Frehse of Everly, Iowa; Branae (Seth) Robb of Spencer, Iowa; Brooke (Brent) Appleby of Cherokee, Iowa; Brance Frehse of Milford, Iowa; Caprina Wakefield of Defiance, Missouri; Nathan Alexander of St. Charles, Missouri; Megan Nielson of Milwaukee, Wisconsin; Dana Nielson of Storm Lake, Iowa; twenty great grandchildren; sister, Renee Bladon of Bella Vista, Arkansas; extended family and friends. Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Walter and Minnie Brummer; husband, Leonard on March 3, 2016; infant sister; and great grandson, Zailin Linke.
