Ardis D. Tuttle

Ardis Tuttle, age 86, of Newell, Iowa died Thursday, April 23, 2015 at the Newell Good Samaritan Society in Newell. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Burial will follow in the Newell Cemetery. Visitation will take place Monday, April 27, 2015 from 4-7:00 p.m. with the family present from 5-7:00 p.m. at Nain Lutheran Church in Newell. Memorials may be directed to the Newell Good Samaritan Society in Newell. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of the arrangements. Ardis Darlene Husted was born February 12, 1929 in Newell, Iowa the daughter of Jens Kristian and Jenny Christiana (Thuesen) Husted. She was baptized and confirmed at the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell where she remained a lifelong member. Growing up, Ardis attended country school through the 8th grade and then attended Sac City High School for two years before graduating from Newell School in 1947. On March 2, 1949, Ardis was united in marriage to Calvin Richard Tuttle at the Randolph Field Air Force Base Chapel in San Antonio, Texas. Together, they were blessed with four children: Loretta “Lorie”, Mark, Scott and James. Ardis was an active member of the Nain Lutheran Church in Newell where she was the secretary of the ladies aid, Sunday school teacher and Bible school teacher and also on the Altar guild. Ardis was also a member of the Eastern Star, holding the office of Worthy Matron on two separate occasions. She was a Grand Representative for the Iowa Grand Chapter to the State of Vermont. Ardis was a member of the Danish Sisterhood, American Legion Auxiliary and the NCN Neighborhood Club. Being a mother and a farmwife brought Ardis great joy. She enjoyed cooking, gardening, canning, and sewing. She enjoyed traveling on the motorcycle with her husband, Calvin, and together, they took many trips around the United States in their RV. A favorite memory of Ardis’ was a tour to Denmark and New York City. Being with family and friends was very important to Ardis and she was very proud of her Danish Heritage, collecting Danish figurines, plates, and angels. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Those left to cherish her memory include her children: Loretta “Lorie” Colshan of Newell, Iowa; Mark (Diane) Tuttle of Newell, Iowa; Scott (Lori) Tuttle of Ogden, Iowa; James Tuttle of Newell, Iowa; grandchildren: Ryan Siddens; Jenny Tuttle; Aaron (Montree) Tuttle; Joel (Berina) Tuttle; Kristin (Brandon) Elsasser; Ross (Alaina) Tuttle; great grandchildren: Kevin and Devin Xayyavong; Arabella and Dane Tuttle; Liviana Tuttle; Sophia Elsasser; sister, Elva Jorgensen of Santa Barbara, California; cousins: Elise Jensen; Eula Petersen; Merlin Jensen; Miriam Rohlfsen; brother-in-law, Pete Petrosky; nieces: Beth Petrosky, Anita Peca, Linda Jorgensen, Aleta Cassidy; nephew, Allan Cassidy; extended family and friends. Ardis was preceded in death by her parents, Jens and Jenny Husted; husband, Calvin Richard Tuttle; brother-in-law, Peter Jorgensen; nephew, Paul Jorgensen; sisters-in-law: Martha Petrosky, Helen Cassidy and June Tuttle.
