Ronald A. Witzke

Ronald Allen Witzke, age 61, of Martensdale, Iowa and formerly of Newell, Iowa, died Monday, October 20, 2008, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, Iowa from complications following a bone marrow transplant.

Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 23, 2008 at Hope Lutheran Church, 3857 E. 42nd Street, Des Moines, Iowa.  Visitation will be held in from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 23rd, at Fratzke Jensen Funeral Home in Newell. A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 24th at the Newell Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Newell is in charge of local arrangements. Memorials should be sent to the family.

Ron was born May 27, 1947 in Storm Lake, Iowa to Leighton and Nettie Witzke. After graduating from Newell-Providence High School, he enlisted in the Army and served in Vietnam. Ron worked with his father as a mechanic and eventually worked in water treatment with the City of Newell and Warren Water District. He was a Boy Scout leader and enjoyed woodworking.

Ron is survived by his wife, Patricia of Martensdale; daughter Jodi (Phil) Cipale of Des Moines; sons Jeremy (Jenifer) Witzke of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, and Jason (Amanda) Witzke of Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren: Emalie, Ashton, Morgan and Seth Cipale, Makenna Witzke, and Rylee, Rochelle and Devin Witzke; four sisters: Janice Holmstrom of Grafton, Wisconsin; Linda (Dwayne) Kay of Storm Lake; Kathy (Mike) Elston of Madrid, Iowa; and Shari (Wayne) Raveling of Storm Lake; three brothers: Richard (Betty) Witzke of Newell, Tim Witzke of Newell, and Kent (Shayla) Witzke of Ringsted, Iowa; many nieces and nephews, cousins and aunts. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, James.
