Marilyn was baptized in the Baptist Church in Sac City. She grew up in and around Sac City, except for her first grade year, when she was in Des Moines, Iowa. She returned to the Sac City area and attended Jackson No. 6 Country School and graduated from Sac Community High School May 28, 1953. Marilyn was employed by the Polar Ice Cream Shop from September 1952 until May of 1955. She was later employed at Deit’s and Sparky’s in Schaller. Marilyn was united in marriage to Harold Warriner on May 22, 1955 at the United Methodist Church in Storm Lake, Iowa. The couple resided on a farm two miles from Schaller. Harold and Marilyn were blessed with two children: Linda and Duane. In 1963, Marilyn became a member of Immanuel Reformed United Church of Christ in rural Schaller, where she served as a Sunday school teacher and held membership in Women’s Fellowship. After that church closed, Marilyn joined the Schaller United Methodist Church in 2006. Marilyn was a friend to all, and always had a smile to share. She loved to garden and enjoyed playing cards. A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, her family was always first in her heart. She treasured the times she spent with her family, and especially enjoyed their special family gatherings and holidays. Her kind and caring ways will be missed by all those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Linda Westeen, and special friend, Randy Collum, both of Grinnell, Iowa; her son, Duane Warriner of Schaller; three grandchildren: Michael (Rhonda) Westeen of Slayton, Minnesota; Steven Westeen of Grinnell, Iowa; and Kimmy (Jake) Hoffman of Dunkerton, Iowa; three great-grandchildren: Evan Westeen, Ethan Westeen and Lynzi Joe Hoffman; extended family and a host of friends. Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, and her beloved husband, Harold, in 2003. |
