Muriel M. Galles, age 83, of Schaller, Iowa died Saturday, October 25, 2008 at the Holstein Good Samaritan Center.

Funeral mass will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, October 27, 2008 at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. Burial will be in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7:00 p.m., Sunday, October 26, 2008 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home of Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Muriel Maurine Reimers was born January 8, 1925, the daughter of Henry John and Abbie (VanWechel) Reimers in Marcus, Iowa. She attended school in Marcus, graduating from Marcus High School. Following graduation, Muriel graduated from Iowa State University with a degree in Art.

On May 28, 1946, Muriel was united in marriage to Cletus William Galles at Holy Name Catholic Church in Marcus, Iowa. They were blessed with two children: Michael Lee and JoAnn Abbie.

Muriel was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller, where she had been a member of the Rosary Society.

Muriel was a Rocky Mountain National Park volunteer, Girl Scout leader, Nominee Club, Bridge Club and YMCA volunteer. She enjoyed playing cards with her friends, gambling, tole painting, macramé, knitting, putting puzzles together and solving crossword puzzles. In addition, Muriel was often found picking up sticks and pulling dandelions and weeds, even in her neighbor’s yards. She treasured the time she spent with family and will be missed greatly.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Michael Galles and his partner, Bill Wright of Denver, Colorado and JoAnn (Galles) Spanier of Schaller, Iowa; grandchildren: Troy Spanier of Laurens, Iowa, April Spanier of Fort Dodge, Iowa, Clifford Wright of Denver, Colorado, Amy Galles and partner, Chris Laumbach of Schaller, Arianna Spanier of Storm Lake, Iowa; great grandchild, Christopher William Gardner of Schaller; sister-in-law, Norma Reimers; and other extended family and friends.

Muriel was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cletus; two brothers: John Henry Reimers and Glenn Curtis Reimers; and infant sister.
