Dorthea Newell

Dorthea M. Newell, age 96, of Storm Lake, Iowa, died on Thursday, November 6, 2008 at the Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake.

Funeral services for Mrs. Newell will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, November 14, 2008 at Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home Storm Lake, with Pastor Kevin Lewis officiating. Burial will be in Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Thursday, November 13th from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home, 1615 West Milwaukee in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00.

Dorthea Marie Huebner was born on June 26, 1912 in Good Thunder, Minnesota to Paul and Petra (Andreason) Huebner. She attended country school near Good Thunder, Minnesota.

On December 23, 1935, Dorthea was united in marriage to Glenn Newell in Sac City, Iowa. This union was blessed with three children: Lucille, LeAnna and Lester.

Dorthea was an active member of the Church of Christ in Storm Lake and the Rebekah Lodge. She was a very talented lady who held numerous jobs outside the home. One of these was painting photographs for Buntrock-Salie Studio. She also worked at Julius Cleaners for a time. She did wallpapering for people, and also sewed and altered clothing. Dorthea cared for children in her home. She enjoyed making crafts of all kinds. Dorthea loved and adored her family and cherished special memories of traveling with Glenn.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children: Lucille Barber of Storm Lake; LeAnna Weeks and her husband, David of Newberry Springs, California; Lester Newell and his wife, Brenda of Storm Lake; seven grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three sisters: Evelyn Sternitzke of Good Thunder, Minnesota; Luella Reimen of Geneva, Minnesota; and Esther Kunz of Mankato, Minnesota; three sisters-in law: Violet LaFever of Storm Lake; Lois Bruns of Alta, Iowa; and Emma Hanson of Sioux City, Iowa; extended family and a host of friends.

Dorthea was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Glenn; her grandson, Larry Weeks; her son-in-law, Jack Barber; and two brothers: George Huebner and Paul Huebner, Jr.
