During World War II, she worked building ships in Portland, Oregon as a welder/riveter to support the war effort. Later, back in Iowa, Ardelle taught at elementary schools in Royal, Truesdale, and Early, before becoming Registrar at her college alma mater, Buena Vista College, in 1959. She continued as Registrar until 1969, when she became Assistant Director of Admissions, a position she held through 1979. On August 2, 1948, Ardelle was united in marriage to Wallace N. Bruns at Saint Mary’s Church in Storm Lake. The couple was blessed with two sons: Terry and Timothy. Ardelle and Wally raised their family in Storm Lake, where she was active in the community. She was a faithful member of Saint Mary’s Church, a member of WA-TAN-YE, Order of Eastern Star Chapter #471 and Rainbow Girls in Ida Grove. She enjoyed golfing in her free time. A loving wife, devoted mother and mother-in-law, and treasured grandmother, Ardelle’s first love was always her family. She will be deeply missed by all those who knew and loved her. Left to cherish her memory are her son, Terry L. (Cheryl) Bruns of Spirit Lake, Iowa; her son, Timothy T. (Marcia) Bruns of Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; her grandsons: Ryan Bruns, Taylor Bruns and Aidan Bruns; her granddaughters, Becca Bruns and Ella Bruns; extended family and many friends. Ardelle was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wally; and two sisters: LaDonna Taylor and LaVaun Hoft. |
