Kenwood “Bill” Steffen

Kenwood “Bill” Steffen, age 90, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Thursday, October 18, 2007 in Storm Lake.

Funeral Services for Mr. Steffen will be held on Monday, October 22, 2007 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Storm Lake, with Reverend Bruce Lawler celebrating the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call on Sunday, October 21, 2007 from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00. A Legion of Mary Rosary will be recited at 3:30 and a vigil service will be held at 7:00, both at the funeral home during visitation hours.

Kenwood C. Steffen was born October 5, 1917 in Storm Lake, Iowa, the son of Carl A. and Mabel (Eckhardt) Steffen. He was raised in Storm Lake and received his education in the local school system, graduating from Storm Lake High School with the Class of 1936.

In April of 1941, Bill was united in marriage with Bonnie McGilligan in Spencer, Iowa. The couple was blessed with four children: Carla, Barbara, William and Tom. 

Bill was employed by Iowa Public Service Company in Storm Lake for 30 years. He retired in 1982. Bill enjoyed his membership in SERPACI Car Club, was very interested in steam locomotives with whistles and liked mechanical work. A devoted family man, Bill treasured the time he was able to spend with them. He will be missed dearly. 

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 66 years, Bonnie of Storm Lake; daughter Carla (Garth) Logan of Anchorage, Alaska; daughter Barbara (Richard) Geisinger of Cherokee, Iowa; son William (Karen) Steffen of Storm Lake; son Tom (Diane) Steffen of Maple Grove, Minnesota; grandchildren: Desiree Logan, Eric Logan, Clinton Logan, Elizabeth Heisler, Rick and Rob Geisinger, Christine and Nicholas Steffen, Chad and Mandi Dreckman; 13 great-grandchildren; extended family and many friends.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Kendrick Steffen; one sister, Audrey Hay; one grandchild, Grant Logan; and one great-grandchild, Mathew Geisinger.
