Glenn Curtis Reimers was born September 21, 1922 in Marcus, Iowa, the son of Henry J. and Abbie (VanWechel) Reimers. He was raised in the Marcus area, received his education there, and graduated from Marcus High School in 1940. The Reimers family established the Schaller Telephone Company in Schaller and Glenn worked at the telephone company following his high school graduation. He was general manager when the clouds of war began descending on the United States. Glenn was proud to go serve his country in the United States Navy as a naval aviator during World War II. He enlisted in August of 1942 and served from January 6, 1943 until he was honorably discharged on January 17, 1946. Glenn was awarded the Air Medal, the American Area Campaign Ribbon, the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon (3 stars) and the Victory Medal II during his years of service. While in the Navy, Glenn met a young woman from Oklahoma who was serving in the WAVES, and in 1945, Glenn and Mary Carol Flemming were united in marriage. The couple was blessed with two children: Steven and Memory. Glenn was later married to Marie Geuther on August 23, 1963. Following his time in the service, Glenn returned to Schaller and once again worked at the telephone company. Over time he was promoted to President, and remained in that position until his retirement in 1987. Glenn was proud to be a member of the Schaller community and would work tirelessly to promote Schaller businesses. Over the years he served the city of Schaller as mayor and was a member of the local Chamber of Commerce. He helped organize the local community housing effort and of course, was a member of many telephone organizations. He also enjoyed membership in the Moose Lodge and the Schaller V.F.W. Glenn liked being outdoors and enjoyed nature, especially watching birds. He fed Martins for many years. Fishing was another favorite pastime. Glenn was an excellent gardener and grew wonderful roses and many different vegetables. He liked socializing with his friends and spending time with his family.
