Daniel D. Shell, age 51, of Schaller, Iowa, died Sunday, May 6, 2007 at Buena Vista Manor in Storm Lake, Iowa.

Memorial service for Mr. Shell will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 9, 2007 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Schaller. Reverend Larry Burns will celebrate the mass. The flag will be presented by the Schaller VFW. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery in Sioux City. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 8, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00. A parish vigil service will be held at 7:30, followed by the recitation of the rosary, all at the funeral home that evening. Daniel Dale Shell was born January 1, 1956 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Dale L. Shell and Jacqueline (LaMache) Shell Edwards. He was baptized as an infant at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Norfolk and later confirmed his faith as a youth at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Sioux City, Iowa. Daniel received his grade school education at Franklin School in Sioux City before graduating from Sioux City North High School in 1974. He continued his education at Grandview College in Des Moines, Iowa, graduating in 1982 with an Associate of Arts degree.

Daniel was proud to serve his country as a member of the United States Air Force. He entered service on February 3, 1976, was stationed at Little Rock, Arkansas, and was honorably discharged on February 2, 1980. During his tenure in the Air Force, Daniel was presented with the Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, the Air Force Longevity Service Award and the Air Force Good Conduct Medal.

Daniel worked as a journeyman electrician and was a member of Local 131 of International Electrical Workers Union, Kalamazoo, Michigan. For relaxation, he enjoyed fishing and golfing.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Jacqueline and Duane Edwards of Schaller; brother Christopher (Cathy) Shell of Kalamazoo, Michigan; sister Valerie (David) Wilms of Kalamazoo, Michigan; sister Anitta (Tony) Spenner of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa; seven nieces and nephews: Rachel (Jason) Aherns of West Des Moines, Iowa; Stephanie (Daniel) Licht of West Des Moines, Iowa; Brian (Carmen) Spenner of West Des Moines, Iowa; Lindsay Nuyen of Calabasas, California; Craig Nuyen of Kalamazoo, Michigan; Tyler Shell and Sydney Shell, both of Schaller; three great-nephews and one great-niece: Braeden and Ainsley Aherns; Dylan and Blake Licht; extended family and a host of friends.

Daniel was preceded in death by his father, Dale L. Shell; maternal grandparents
Suzanne Bourdeless and Pierre LaMache; and paternal grandparents Bernard R. and Mildred Shell.
