In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established to the United Methodist Church and Dollars for Scholars. Born June 4, 1927, in Arco, Minnesota, Boyd was the son of Errol and Clara Barber Cammack. He married Dorothy Jean DeSart on June 5, 1949. He completed his junior and senior years together at Lake City (Iowa) High School, and enlisted in the U.S. Navy, where he was assigned to the naval base at Sister Bay in the Aleutian Islands. After the war he continued his education, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree in education from Buena Vista College, and his Masters degree in guidance counseling from Iowa State University. Boyd was employed by the Storm Lake school system for 36 years, as mathematics teacher and guidance counselor for thousands of Storm Lake High School students, and retired in 1989. Boyd-the-painter spent summers painting houses for many people who knew of his knowledge and passion to do the job right. As a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Storm Lake, Boyd lived a life of significance in serving God and others. Boyd was involved in Dollars For Scholars, Habitat For Humanity, and was a charter member of the Helpers and Planners for Parent and Youth (HAPPY). Family was very important to Boyd, and he deeply loved his wife, children and grandchildren. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 57 years, Dorothy; four daughters, Christine (Creston) Harris of Estero, Florida, Kathleen (Tony) Faine of Cedar Rapids, Carla (Russell) Porter of Des Moines, Karen (Scott) Stiles of Fort Dodge; and ten grandchildren David, Amanda, and Doyle (Harris), Brett, and Jeffrey (Faine), Benjamin, Brandon, and Blake (Porter), Matthew and Jennifer (Stiles). Boyd was preceded by his parents and two brothers, Ray Cammack and Ralph Cammack, and two sisters, Edna Peters and Iola Daggett. |
