Alice Marie (Hudson) Stoelting was born December 20, 1915 in rural Schaller, Iowa, where she was a lifelong resident.  She met her Lord and Savior on October 3, 2007.

Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday,  October 6, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, with Pastor Clint Hogrefe of Oakdale Evangelical Free Church in rural Meriden, Iowa officiating.  Burial will be in Immanuel Reformed Church of Christ Cemetery in rural Schaller.  The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, October 5, 2007 at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake, where the family will be present. 

Alice graduated from Schaller High School in 1933.  She excelled in school and was selected to read her graduating class’ poem.  Her love of music evidenced itself in her singing and playing the piano. 

Three months after her twentieth birthday, she married Otto Paul Stoelting.   As a faithful farmer’s wife, she worked very hard.  Years later, Otto and Alice welcomed one beloved son, Wendell, who brought them a great deal of joy. 

As a lady of faith and family, Alice served as a member of Immanuel Reformed Church of Christ and participated in the Ladies Aid.  Alice enjoyed sewing and baking for her family.  She enjoyed her garden and her flowers–especially gladioli, which she would bring to family gatherings.  With a green thumb, she kept all kinds of plants growing and thriving.  Homemade cakes, bars, and cookies were synonymous with Alice.  Her delicious angel food cake highlighted family dinners.  Alice’s gentle kindness even extended to her dog, Yeller, her cats, and wild birds, which she fed.

For Alice, John 3:16 was real, and that comforts her family. She also did many quiet good deeds.  Her life is treasured by her only grandchildren, Stacie Ruth Stoelting and Carrie Beth Stoelting.  Alice and her granddaughters were very close and spent a lot of time together.  They will deeply miss their beloved “Grandma Alice.”

Left to cherish her memory is her immediate family: her only child, Dr. Wendell Stoelting and his wife Mary, of Cherokee, Iowa; two granddaughters, Stacie and Carrie Stoelting; and one sister, Mary Cole of Schaller. 

Nephews and nieces include John Cole of Schaller;  Sharon Stoos (Brian) of Remsen, Iowa;  Nancy Ehlers (LaVerne) of Sioux City, Iowa;  Kenneth Stoelting (Jean) of Sac City, Iowa;  Carol Nicholson of Ashland, Kansas; Betty Stoelting of Carroll, Iowa; Marlene Hemmer (John) of Gravois Mills, Missouri; Phyllis Skinner (Lyle) of Lake City, Iowa; and Jeanette Leathead (Dale) of New Holland, Pennsylvania.  Friends include Hilda Beamer, Ruth Beamer, and Methodist Manor residents and nurses/nurses aids.
Alice was preceded in death by her husband, Otto Stoelting; her parents, John Thomas and Florence May (Carran) Hudson; two siblings, John Frederick Hudson and Ann Elizabeth Hudson; and her brother-in-law, James Cole.
