Anthony “Babe” Schuler

Anthony J. “Babe” Schuler, age 94, of Storm Lake, Iowa died Saturday, January 20, 2007 at Buena Vista Regional Medical Center in Storm Lake.

Funeral services for Mr. Schuler will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2007 at St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake. Burial will follow at the Buena Vista Memorial Park Cemetery in Storm Lake. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Storm Lake is in charge of the arrangements.

Friends may call from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, January 22, 2007 at the funeral home, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Anthony was born on March 18, 1912 to John and Margaret (Walsh) Schuler in Sloan, Iowa.  He lived with his family in Sloan, where he attended grade school.  The family moved to the Storm Lake area, and Babe then received his education from Hayes Consolidated School.

On December 8, 1935, Babe was united in marriage to Mildred Grieme.  Their union was blessed with three children: Bonnie, Eddie and Randy.

Babe was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church in Storm Lake.  He immensely enjoyed playing cards and having coffee with friends over the years, as well as driving his car around the area. Babe was also an avid baseball fan who loved to watch the Atlanta Braves and the Chicago Cubs on television.  He took great pride and joy in watching his family grow, and he loved watching his grandchildren participate in different sports and activities.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Bonnie Goodman of Alta, Iowa;  his son, Randy Schuler and wife Joy of Storm Lake; seven grandchildren: Natalie Page and her husband, Keith; Kelly Gaffey and her husband, Virgil; Sally Thompson and her husband, Randy; Penny Bonham and her husband, Daniel; Nicholas Goodman, Lisa Dukes and her husband, John; Molly LaFave and her husband, Chad; 11 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Ruby Steig and husband Dewitt of Storm Lake, Iowa; and numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.

Preceding Babe in death were his parents, his wife, two sisters, six brothers and his infant son, Eddie.
