Wayne Sutherland
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, April 19, 2006, at 10:00 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, Iowa, with Pastor David Lyons officiating. Burial will be in the Cook Township Cemetery near Schaller. The Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller is in charge of the arrangements. Friends may call Tuesday, April 18, 2006 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Fratzke & Jensen Funeral Home in Schaller, where the family will be present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wayne was born June 13, 1920 in rural Schaller to Earl and Maude (Miller) Sutherland. Wayne received his elementary education in a country school followed by high school at the Schaller Public School, from which he graduated in 1937. Wayne served his country during WW II in the Army Air Corps. He married Deva Behrends on May 25, 1946 in Fort Dodge, Iowa. Their union was blessed with two sons, Keith and Kent. Wayne and Deva would have been married 60 years in May of this year. Wayne spent most of his life farming. He held several sales and other jobs after he quit farming in 1972. Wayne loved trail rides, horse shows, parades and any other activity connected with horses. He was a member and past president of various local saddle clubs. He was a faithful member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Schaller, where he once served as president of the congregation and for many years taught Sunday School. He drove a school bus after he retired from full-time work. A loving husband and devoted father and grandfather, Wayne will be dearly missed by those who knew and loved him. Survivors include his wife, Deva, of Schaller; son Kent and wife Brenda Carns; son Keith and wife Patricia Sutherland; grandchildren: Joshua Sutherland of Fort Collins, Colorado; Will Sutherland of Juneau, Alaska; Ashley and Elizabeth Sutherland of Sioux City, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Calli Mueller; sister-in-law Darlene and husband Darwin Kroske of Pomeroy, Iowa; brother-in-law Lester Behrends of Siren, Wisconsin and sister-in-law Darlene Behrends of Pomeroy, Iowa; extended family and friends. Wayne is preceded in death by his parents and infant granddaughter, Christine Jill. |
